Private SUP Lessons in Lahaina – One-on-One & Exclusive Small Groups

Stand-up paddleboarding is one of the best ways to experience Maui’s coastline, and this private lesson lets you do it with your own dedicated instructor. Whether you're trying SUP for the very first time or looking to improve your technique, the lesson is completely tailored to your pace and experience level. You'll spend less time waiting and more time on the water, building confidence while exploring Lahaina's calm, reef-protected coastline.
After a short introduction on shore, you'll head out onto the ocean where your instructor will guide you through balance, paddling technique, turning, and board control while cruising across clear blue water. As you paddle along the shoreline, you'll enjoy incredible views of West Maui and may spot Hawaiian green sea turtles, tropical fish, and other marine life moving beneath your board. The calm conditions make it easy to relax, enjoy the scenery, and simply have fun on the water.
Choose between a fully private one-on-one lesson for the most personalized coaching or an exclusive private group lesson for 2–4 participants. Unlike traditional group lessons, your party will have the instructor entirely to yourselves, making it perfect for couples, families, and friends who want to learn together while still receiving plenty of individual attention. No prior paddleboarding experience is required, and all equipment is included!

Ages & Requirements

  1. Minimum age: 10 years old for exclusive group lessons. Children 9 years and younger are required to book a 1-on-1 private session.
  2. No prior paddleboarding experience required — this lesson is designed for first-timers and beginners.
  3. Participants should be comfortable in the water. Swimming ability is not strictly required, though it is highly recommended.
  4. Exclusive group lessons must have two students minimum, and a maximum of four students.

I've never stood on a paddleboard before — is this for me?

Absolutely. This lesson is designed for complete beginners. Your instructor starts with a short land lesson to cover balance, paddling technique, and safety before you get on the water. Most people are up and paddling confidently within a few minutes.

What wildlife might I see on the water?

SUP lessons run along Lahaina's coastline, where green sea turtles (honu), colorful reef fish, and occasionally monk seals or other marine life are commonly spotted. Keep your eyes on the water — there's always something to see!

How calm is the water for the SUP lesson?

SUP lessons take place in the calmer waters along the Lahaina coastline, which are generally well-suited for beginners. Conditions can vary — your instructor will keep you in appropriate water for your level.

What sunscreen can I use, and does it matter?

Reef-safe sunscreen is strongly encouraged. Common sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate can harm coral reefs. Look for mineral-based sunscreens labeled "non-nano" and avoid products containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, or parabens. Wearing a long-sleeve rash guard (provided) is a great way to reduce sunscreen use altogether.

Customers will receive a full refund with 48 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances, such as medical or an emergency with presenting required documents. Contact us via phone or email to inquire about a cancellation/rescheduled reservation. No-shows will be charged the full amount of the scheduled reservation.
