Private, Custom Surfing Lessons in Wrightsville Beach
There's no faster way to fall in love with surfing than a private, one-on-one lesson at Wrightsville Beach. Your instructor tailors every session to you — the style of waves you'll ride, the pace of instruction, and even the board you use — so whether you're standing up for the first time or fine-tuning technique after years in the water, the lesson moves at your speed.
Sessions meet right at Beach Access #36, steps from Crystal Pier, where your instructor will be waiting with a board in hand. Lessons run year-round, seven days a week, with exact start times set around the day's tide for the best learning conditions. Choose a 1:1 or 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio depending on your group.

- 650 South Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480 — Beach Access #36, also known as Crystal Pier (north side)
- A map link and directions are included in your booking confirmation email
- After parking, walk up the Beach Access #36 entrance sidewalk/footpath. When you reach the sand, meet your instructor.
- Your instructor will be wearing a Sean's Private Surf Instruction t-shirt.
- In peak summer heat, the sand gets very hot — sandals or shoes are recommended for the walk down

Are your instructors certified?
Yes — all instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, and are experienced local surfers familiar with the Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, NC surf breaks.
Do I need previous surfing experience?
No previous experience is required. Instruction is available for all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced surfers looking to refine their skills.
What's included in the price of my lesson or camp?
All necessary equipment is included — surfboard, leash, and a wetsuit if needed for water temperature. You're welcome to bring and use your own board or wetsuit instead.
Do you offer lessons year-round?
Yes, private lessons are offered seven days a week, year-round, with exact lesson times set based on tide conditions.
What's the difference between the 1:1 and 2:1 instructor ratio?
You can choose to have one instructor dedicated entirely to you, or share one instructor between two students — a good option for two beginners learning together at a slightly lower cost per person.
How many people can book this lesson together?
This private lesson accommodates groups of up to 15 people, so it works for everyone from a solo learner to a larger family or friend group.
Why don't lesson times list a fixed start time?
Surf conditions change with the tide, so your instructor will help you choose the best time of day to book based on that day's tide forecast.
Cancellation Policy
CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refunds will be issued for surf lesson cancellations with at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded, payments will be kept as a credit which can be used any time within the calendar year. No shows will not be refunded. Cancelling less than 30 minutes before lesson start time is considered a ‘no show’. Full refund will be issued in case of operator cancellation due to foul weather and/or poor surf conditions. OUR OFFICE HOURS are Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm, Saturday 9am-2pm, and Sunday CLOSED.
