Set sail for an epic adventure that will satisfy every member of the family! Kayak through mangrove-shaded channels, snorkel through crystal-clear water, or relax on deck in the sweet Florida breeze.

Spend the day with us! Our shallow-draft schooners will take you right up to one of the Keys’ most postcard-perfect locations, the Key West National Wildlife Refuge.

The Full Day Excursion is the perfect trip for you all that love being out on the water. It’s got everything the half day does and then some. We will spend plenty of time snorkeling as well as kayaking around one of the mangrove islands. Weather permitting we will stop at an island with a beach or a sandbar while taking in all the beauty of our Florida Keys Ecosystem.  Between activities, we will provide a full lunch while you relax, enjoy it and take in some sailing. Key West National Wildlife Refuge

The Key West National Wildlife Refuge – known to Conchs (locals) as the Backcountry – was among the first refuges established in North America and, sadly, is the last remaining example of an untouched marine ecosystem in Florida.

Accessible only by boat, we are careful to treat the vital Backcountry with the utmost respect, and we take great pride in educating our guests about the area. Our schooners are able to navigate through the shallow water flats and sandbars, winding channels, and mangrove islands, providing you with world-class experiences without causing distress to the ecosystem.

This 14-island, 375-mile stretch of open water is home to:

Hundreds of bird species
Several turtle species (hawksbill, loggerhead, green)
Florida manatee
Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins
Miami blue butterfly (critically endangered)

FAQs

What time should we check in?
Check in 30 minutes prior to the time of your departure. For example, if we sail at 4:30 pm, please check in at 4 pm.

Where should we park?
Key West is small, and parking can be tricky! Make sure you plan accordingly so you don’t miss your boat!

For Key West trips departing from the Danger Chandlery Store:
Pay-by-block parking meters which take cash, quarters, and credit/debit cards
Parking under the Opal Resort & Marina may be available; most often it is full
If possible, bike, walk, or take a taxi to the dock

Are bathrooms available on the boat?
Yes, there are bathrooms on all of our boats.

I don't know how to snorkel or kayak, can I still come?
Yes! Our expert crew can give you an instructional overview on snorkeling and kayaking, and a one-on-one lesson if you need additional support.

Snorkeling is easier than swimming, and our gear is top-of-the-line and sanitized between uses. We even have some prescription masks available. We have easy-to-handle ocean kayaks – and if you fall in, the water is warm and shallow! In winter months, we provide complimentary wetsuits.

If you don’t want to snorkel and/or kayak, you’re welcome to relax on the boat and enjoy the phenomenal scenery.

Does everyone snorkel and kayak together?
Yes. Smaller groups and families snorkel and kayak together. We may split up larger groups into two to provide the best experience for all.

What are the rules for snorkeling and kayaking near the reefs?
At Danger Charters, we pride ourselves on being mindful and protective of our precious environment, and ask that our guests do the same. Touching or standing on coral, living or dead, is prohibited, as is removing, harvesting, or possessing any marine life.

What is reef safe sunscreen?
Sunblock labeled as “reef safe” or “reef friendly” does not contain the chemicals Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, both of which have been linked to coral bleaching. Other harmful ingredients to coral reproduction and DNA structure are Benzophenone-1, Benzophenone-8, OD-PABA, 4-Methylbenzylidene camphor, 3-Benzylidene camphor, and Octocrylene. Check the list of active ingredients on your sunblock bottle to see if it’s reef safe.

We sell reef safe sunscreen and sun shirts at the Danger Chandlery Store.

Is there a fresh water rinse on board?
Yes. You’re welcome to rinse off in fresh water after you snorkel and kayak.

Can we wear shoes on deck?
Yes. Soft-soled shoes are best; heels are discouraged. Click here for helpful tips about what to wear on your sailing charter.

Is there shade on board?
Yes, by nature of the sails, there is plenty of shade on board. In the summer months or when the wind is minimal, we can add a canopy for shade.

I get motion sickness, will I get seasick?
At Danger Charters, we are intentional to seek out calm waters. Our aim is to enjoy the sailing experience – not to sail fast or go hard – and it’s unusual for our guests to get seasick.
If you are prone to seasickness, though, consider choosing our Key West trips out of the Danger Chandlery Store where the water is almost always flat calm. We sometimes see some waves on our Stock Island trips.

Motion sickness pills and sea bands are recommended for seasickness, and both are available at the Danger Chandlery Store. Note that motion sickness medication is most effective when taken about 30 minutes in advance of boarding. Ginger candy can also help to combat motion sickness.
