Guided Phil's World Mountain Biking in Durango with Lunch - Mixed Group Tour

Just 45 minutes west of Durango, Phil's World trail network is home to some of the most playful single‑track in the Southwest—highlighted by The Rib Cage, a swooping roller‑coaster of berms and rollers that riders can’t help but lap again and again. On this full‑day mixed tour, our guide picks a route that suits the group’s collective skill—linking fast, grin‑inducing loops for strong intermediates and advanced riders ready to earn their turns.

After a scenic van ride, we’ll gear up, review safety, and roll straight into the fun. Expect sustained but moderate climbs, punchy tech sections, and a big dose of desert scenery around 6,400 ft—perfect elevation for acclimating before any high‑alpine missions. Mid‑ride, we’ll break for fresh, high‑quality sandwiches from Durango Natural Foods Co‑op (veg/vegan/GF all available) plus plenty of trail snacks. 

All rides are led by WFR‑certified guides who can tweak suspension, straighten a derailleur, or simply pace the group so everyone finishes stoked and spent in the best way. Bring your own bike or rent a current‑model trail machine through 2nd Ave Sports. Come ready to high‑five new friends and crush some world‑class singletrack!

Location / Where to Meet

We'll provide transportation to and from your lodging (within 5 miles of Durango’s city center). If you are staying farther outside of town, we will establish a spot to meet and transport you from there, or we can meet at 2nd Ave Sports (640 E 2nd Ave, Durango, CO 81301), where we our rent bikes from.

As this is a group tour, please recognize your guide will be making multiple stops to pick up and drop off other guests. Please be on time with your set pick-up time to avoid delaying the entire tour.

Due to the extended travel necessary for this tour, there is an additional $100 fee for the booking group.

Ages & Requirements

Most of these trails cater to intermediate to advanced riders, so please only book this tour if you have a fair amount of mountain biking experience.

While little shredders are welcome, please consider your child's ability level before booking a group tour. We recommend that families with children, any party that requires a slower pace, book a private tour. These can be adjusted to suit your family's pace and needs. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Professional instruction on mountain biking technique and form.
Lunch: Gourmet Sandwich & Chips from Durango Natural Foods, utilizing predominantly local and organic ingredients on locally made organic sourdough. Please let us know ahead of time of any food allergies and dietary restrictions. Vegan/Vegetarian/GF options are available.
Snacks: Guides will provide a variety of snacks for guests to pack into their daypacks at the trailhead if they would like.
Transportation to and from your lodging (within 5 miles of Durango’s city center) or an established meeting location
Pick-up and drop-off of your rental bike and helmet from 2nd Ave Sports.
A medically trained and well-experienced mountain biking guide, aware of local dangers and how to mitigate them, who is excited to share their passion for the outdoors with you; as well as their favorite places to eat in town!

What to Bring

Rain Jacket (even if the weather calls for pure sunshine, that isn’t always accurate and it can change quickly here)
A variety of clothing layers to adjust to speed of movement and varying weather conditions that will likely occur. Athletic clothing is preferred.
A hat to protect from the intense Colorado sun
Sunglasses
Long-sleeved sunshirt (not required, but definitely recommended for this environment)

Your all-time favorite trail snacks
2 liters of water. (We will have a large water jug in the vehicle to top up water bottles at the trailhead.)
Appropriate footwear: The mountain bikes come with standard flat pedals, unless otherwise requested. We recommend a solid hiking shoe or boot for our mountain biking tours.

Where is Phil’s World located?

Phil’s World is just east of Cortez, Colorado—about a 45-minute drive from downtown Durango.

How difficult is this tour?

Phil’s World is best for intermediate to advanced riders. The trails are fast and flowy with some technical sections—please only book if you’re confident on singletrack.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

You’re welcome to bring your own bike! If not, we partner with 2nd Ave Sports in Durango for high-quality mountain bike rentals. We’ll pick up your gear before the tour.

Is the $100 travel fee per person?

Nope—it’s one flat fee per group (not per person), added to your booking total to help cover the extended roundtrip drive to the trailhead.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that life happens, and you might need to cancel your tour with us after you have booked it. All tours are eligible to be rescheduled at no cost for up to 6 months past the original booking date, if desired dates are available. If you need to cancel completely:
