Step onto a paddleboard and get out on Monument Lake, a mile-long, spring-fed lake tucked into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado. The lake sits at the center of a historic 1937 adobe resort, so you're never far from the marina if you want to head back in early.

The lake's spring-fed water tends to stay clear and calm, and the surrounding peaks give the whole area a secluded, high-country feel, even with a full-service marina and fly shop right on site.

It's a quiet, mountain-ringed setting well suited to an easy paddle, whether you're circling the shoreline or just getting out on the water for an hour or two. With rentals available hourly or for a full day, it's easy to fit in a short session or make a whole afternoon of it.

3. Registration office hours are generally 7am–4pm; Sunday check-in and park pass pickup also happen at the marina

3. Dogs are strictly prohibited on rental boats
