About

The PADI eLearning Open Water Course is a 2-day course which consists of 5 confined water dives (in a pool) and 4 open water dives. A typical schedule is Day #1: 7:30am-5:30pm and Day #2: 12:30pm - 4:30pm

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI Open Water Diver course – the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba course. Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course.

Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development – including facts, principles and concepts – and dive skills including techniques and methods. PADI Open Water Diver Online uses videos, audio, graphics and reading to help you learn, plus short quizzes that let you gauge your progress, and then offers a review of anything you happen to miss. You develop dive skills during actual dives with a PADI Instructor at Kauai Down Under. By completing knowledge development online, you’re ready to meet with your instructor and start having fun in the water rather than sitting in the classroom on your vacation!

What You Will Learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development (online) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

What Scuba Gear Will You Use?

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank.

Cancellation Policy

🛑 Dive Kauai’s Generous 72-Hour Cancellation Policy for Certification Courses – Book with Confidence!

At Dive Kauai, we understand that plans can change, especially when preparing for a certification course. That’s why we offer a straightforward 72-hour cancellation policy designed to provide you peace of mind.

📅 Cancellation Guidelines:

  • Full Payment Required at Booking:
When booking your course, you will be charged the FULL COST OF THE COURSE. This ensures your reservation and provides immediate access to your PADI eLearning materials.

  • Non-Refundable PADI eLearning Materials Charge:
Should you cancel your course outside of our 72-hour cancellation policy, you are eligible for a refund LESS the retail cost of the PADI eLearning materials ($299.55 + tax per person).

  • The PADI eLearning materials are non-refundable once sent, but they are yours to keep and can be used with any PADI dive center worldwide for future certification.

  • Additional non-refundable charges may apply if you have added any specialty certifications to your course. These will be outlined separately during booking.

  • Free Cancellation:
Courses canceled at least 72 hours before the scheduled start time will incur no additional charges.
(Calculated to the minute! For a 7:30 am course, cancellations must be made by 7:29 am Hawaii Time, three days before.)**

  • Late Cancellations & No-Shows:
Courses canceled less than 72 hours before the scheduled start time or customers who do not show up will be charged 100% of the course total.
(Again, calculated to the minute—e.g., 7:29 am Hawaii Time, three days before a 7:30 am course.)

  • Rescheduling Fees (When Within 72 Hours):
If you wish to reschedule your course within the 72-hour window rather than cancel, we will do our best to accommodate your request, subject to availability and scheduling. However, rescheduling is not guaranteed.

  • Day #1 Rescheduling Fee: $95 + tax per person

  • Day #2 Rescheduling Fee: $80 + tax per person
  • Full Course Rescheduling Fee: $175 + tax per person

🚫 Not All Students May Complete the Course:

Our PADI-certified instructors follow strict guidelines to ensure your safety and success. Unfortunately, not everyone may complete the course due to anxiety, performance issues, health conditions, or other circumstances.

If a student cannot complete the full Open Water Certification, we will attempt to provide a partial certification called “Scuba Diver” with no time limit for completing the full course with another PADI Dive Center or a return visit with us.

💡 Important:

  • The BASE course fees remain unchanged regardless of modifications.

  • If additional training days are required to complete the course, the cost is up to $145 + tax per person, per day, depending on the extent of training still needed.

  • If a student drops out of the course or has not met the PADI Standards for continuing training, there is no reduction in the price of the course. This is because the reserved space was held specifically for you, preventing other potential students from booking those dates and times.

📝 Medical Requirements:

Safety is our top priority! Before your course, you must complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire and follow all instructions provided.

  • If you arrive without completing the form or have a medical condition requiring clearance from a physician, you will not be allowed to dive and no refund will be provided.

🗺️ Elevation and Diving Safety:

For your safety, do not engage in activities above 1,000 feet (300 meters) within 18 hours after diving. This includes:

  • Driving or hiking to Waimea Canyon
  • Taking helicopter or airplane tours
  • Departing the island on commercial flights (even inter-island)

💡 Tip: If you have high-elevation plans within 18 hours of your dive, contact us at least 72 hours in advance to reschedule or cancel. Once within the 72-hour window, the policy applies.

Why Risk Booking Elsewhere? Dive Kauai offers one of the most clear and fair cancellation policies for certification courses on the island – because we believe in treating our guests the way we'd want to be treated.
