Description
Night Hike 'n Stars 2.0 - Private Night Hike & Stargazing – Intermediate/Advanced
Your guide leads the way, helping the group build and use night vision to travel comfortably through the dark, sharing stories along the trail, and pointing out the moon, constellations, and the Milky Way when conditions allow. It's a longer commitment than a short evening walk, built for those who want more time under the stars and more trail underfoot before the night wraps up.
Duration
- Total trip length: approximately 5.5 hours, including check-in, the drive to the trailhead, breaks, and hiking time
Location / Where to Meet

- For groups of 4 or more, your guide establishes a meeting point in Estes Park or at the trailhead instead

FAQs
What is this hike about?
This is a longer guided night hike, built around more time and more distance on trail after dark than a short evening walk. Your guide helps the group build and use night vision to travel comfortably, with storytelling and stargazing built into the trip.
Is a headlamp provided?
Yes, a headlamp is included for the hike. Guests are also welcome to bring their own with charged batteries as a backup.
Will we actually see the Milky Way or constellations?
Visibility depends on the moon phase and cloud cover on a given night, so it varies. Your guide shares knowledge of the night sky and points out what's visible whenever conditions allow.
How much more involved is this than a shorter night hike?
This trip runs longer and covers more trail distance in the dark, so guests should be comfortable with an extended period of low-light hiking rather than a brief evening walk.
Are s'mores really included?
Yes — hot cocoa and s'mores prepared over a camp stove are part of the trip.
What can I expect to see and do on a guided hike?
Beyond the hiking itself, your guide shares knowledge of the local history, geology, flowers, and trees, and keeps an eye out for wildlife along the way. If animals are spotted while driving and it's safe to stop, your guide will pull over so the group can observe from a safe distance. Elk, mule deer, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep are commonly seen, with moose and other wildlife possible as well.
Are your guides certified?
Yes. Guides are professional, trained, and Wilderness First Aid/CPR-certified.
How big are the groups, and will I be with strangers?
Every trip is a private, custom trip booked exclusively for your party — you won't be combined with other travelers. Group sizes run from 1 to 9 people, based on Rocky Mountain National Park's group-size regulations for a single certified guide.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, advance booking is recommended, especially during the busy summer season, to ensure guide and date availability.
Do I need a park pass?
You'll need a valid park pass or to pay the park entrance fee, but since you're on a guided trip, a timed-entry permit is not required — your guide handles that reservation for your group. Credit or debit is required at the park entrance; cash is not accepted.
