Your trip begins at our private, riverfront outpost where you'll park and launch directly into the South Fork if the New River. Bring your favorite beverages and snacks—we’ll take care of the rest. With top-of-the-line Old Town Discovery canoes, all necessary gear, and shuttle included, you’ll be set up for a smooth and enjoyable adventure. Whether you're floating past lush riverbanks, watching for wildlife, or simply soaking in the serenity, this is the perfect way to spend a day outdoors.

What if I've never canoed before?

The South Fork of the New River is calm and beginner-friendly. We’ll provide basic instructions before you launch.

What's the most common section of the New River for a relaxed float trip?

Most guests paddle the section from our riverfront outpost to Liberty Grove, which offers a scenic and beginner-friendly route with gentle current and beautiful surroundings.

What kind of wildlife might we see?

Keep an eye out for great blue herons, river otters, turtles, deer, and a wide variety of songbirds. The South Fork is rich with natural beauty and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Can we swim in the river?

Yes! The water is typically calm and shallow in many areas, and there are plenty of spots where you can safely hop out for a dip.

How far in advance should we book a reservation?

There is no set time, but space is limited so reserve your space as soon as you get a date in mind.

How many people do I need to book?

You can bring just yourself or a large group.

Can I bring my camera or video camera?

We don’t recommend bringing video cameras or even expensive still cameras on trips. Many people bring disposable waterproof cameras which work just fine. The quality of the pictures is pretty good, and if you lose it, it’s not the end of the world. They are well suited to rafting and caving (with a flash). On most guided trips we can take pictures and send you a CD from the day.

What if it rains?

We operate rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe (e.g. lightning or high water). We’ll notify you if we need to delay or reschedule due to weather.

Cancellation Policy

A 14-day cancellation policy applies to all bookings. Cancellations made within two weeks of the trip date are non-refundable. However, if you notify River and Earth Adventures, Inc. at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled trip, you may receive trip credit for a future adventure within the same calendar year.
