Description

Guided Hike in Mount Rainier National Park - Burroughs Mountain

Discover one of Mount Rainier National Park’s most iconic trails on this guided hike to Burroughs Mountain. Starting above the Sunrise Visitor Center, we traverse expansive alpine meadows before reaching Sourdough Ridge, where stunning views stretch north to Mount Baker and Glacier Peak. The trail soon rises above the tree line, passing by Frozen Lake, and begins the first of three Burroughs climbs—home to mountain goats, marmots, and pika that thrive in this rare alpine tundra.

The First Burroughs offers a perfect spot to pause and soak in the scenery. For those with extra energy, we continue to the Second Burroughs, our ultimate destination at 7,500’. Here, the dramatic vistas include Glacier Basin below, Little Tahoma Ridge, and expansive views of the park to the north, including Fremont Lookout, Berkeley and Grand Parks, and Skyscraper Mountain. This is also an ideal spot for a picnic lunch while taking in Mount Rainier’s towering presence at 14,411 feet.
Our return route winds through lush green meadows and forests, providing a quieter, reflective end to the hike. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for signs of black bears and other wildlife that call this beautiful landscape home. This moderate 4–6 mile adventure is perfect for hikers looking to experience alpine meadows, dramatic ridgelines, and some of the best views Mount Rainier has to offer.
