Description
Two of Maui’s Most Famous Snorkel Spots in One Morning!
Start early and head straight for Molokini Crater, arriving before many of the larger tour boats for a quieter start to your morning on the water. Rising from the Pacific just offshore from South Maui, this partially submerged volcanic crater is one of Hawaii’s most recognizable snorkeling destinations, known for clear water, protected reef habitat, and an incredible variety of tropical marine life.
Slip into the water and explore Molokini’s underwater landscape, watching schools of tropical fish move across the reef while your guides help point out marine life you might otherwise miss. The small-group, adventure-style raft keeps the experience personal and puts you close to the water, giving you more room to enjoy the reef without the feel of a large sightseeing vessel.
Then it’s back aboard for the ride to Turtle Town, where lava formations along the South Maui coastline create habitat for Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu). Here you'll get another chance to snorkel, this time searching for turtles as they swim through the reef, rest along the bottom, or rise toward the surface for air. The contrast between Molokini’s offshore volcanic crater and Turtle Town’s coastal reef gives you two distinctly different snorkeling experiences in a single morning.
During humpback whale season from December through April, keep watch during the boat ride for whales traveling through Maui’s waters. An onboard hydrophone may even give you the opportunity to listen to their songs beneath the surface. With two of Maui’s most famous snorkeling destinations, a small-group atmosphere, and an early start designed to maximize your time on the reef, this is a compact adventure that packs a lot into one morning.

FAQs
Is lunch included on this tour?
Yes, a full lunch is served on board, with a choice of sandwich, fresh fruit, and a cookie, plus vegan and gluten-free options available upon request.
What might we see at Turtle Town?
Hawaiian green sea turtles are commonly seen resting or grazing near the surface, and they're accustomed to snorkelers nearby, often surfacing just a few feet away.
Will we see whales on this tour?
During whale season (December through April), whale sightings are common along the route, and an onboard hydrophone lets you listen to humpback song underwater.
Are pets or service animals allowed on board?
Service animals cannot be accommodated on these tours, and pets are not permitted onboard.
Do I need previous snorkeling experience?
No previous experience is required. Your guides give a safety and gear briefing before anyone gets in the water, and snorkel gear is fitted for you at the start of the trip.
What sunscreen should I use?
Reef-safe, non-nano mineral sunscreen is recommended. Please avoid sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, or parabens, as these chemicals can harm coral reefs.
Can I snorkel with a beard or mustache, or wear glasses or contacts?
A beard or mustache can make it harder for a snorkel mask to form a tight seal — petroleum jelly or chapstick along the mustache line can help. Glasses can't be worn under a snorkel mask, but contacts work well; if you have a prescription mask of your own, feel free to bring it.
Why is Molokini Crater such a famous snorkeling destination?
Molokini is a partially submerged volcanic crater located offshore from South Maui. Its protected shape, clear ocean water, and dramatic underwater topography have made it one of Hawaii's best-known snorkeling destinations. Depending on conditions, this tour may explore the inside rim, outer reef, and even the backside of Molokini. One of the highlights is drifting along the outer reef and looking over an underwater drop-off of approximately 200 feet (61 m).
