Description

Two Tanks, Endless Possibilities—Let Maui Surprise You!

Skip the well-known spots and dive some of Maui's less-visited sites on a Wild Card day. Your captain and crew pick the plan based on conditions, the coolness factor, and your special requests, which means every Wild Card trip is a little different from the last.

Possible sites include Marty's Reef, the St. Anthony wreck, Z Blocks, Mala, Tank, and the Landing Craft & Triple Anchors – a mix of reefs, wrecks, and structure that most visitors never get to see. Some dives may include drifting with the current along the coastline, adding an extra sense of adventure.

It's a day for curious divers who want something different, with turtles, rays, and reef sharks often making an appearance. Snacks and drinks are on board between dives, and the relaxed pace on a roomy 46 ft (14 m) dive boat makes it easy to swap stories about what you found.

Duration

  1. 6 to 8 Hours
  2. This is the total time including two guided dives and a surface interval.

Location / Where to Meet

    1. Check-in: Maalaea Harbor, Slip 23 – 101 Maalaea Road, Wailuku, HI 96793
    • Check-in time: 6:15 AM. Your confirmation email lists the exact check-in time for your trip.
    • Parking: There is plenty of paid parking near Slip 23. Pay at the machines or with the posted QR codes, and plan to pay for about 8 hours of parking.
    • Restrooms: A restroom (marine head) is on board the boat. Please keep paper products out of the marine head.

    Ages & Requirements

    1. Certified divers only – Open Water certification (or equivalent) is the minimum. Please bring your certification card.
    2. Recent diving experience – If it has been more than two years since your last dive, you must complete a refresher or guided shore dive with a local dive shop before your boat dive, or hire a private dive guide for your dives (extra fee).
    3. Experience required – At least 10 logged dives, excellent buoyancy control, and comfort doing safety stops on the go (no line to hold on to). Sites may include drift diving.
    4. Minimum age: 10 – Divers 12 and older can join the regular guided groups. Divers aged 10–11 have depth limitations and require a private guide (additional fee, advance notice needed).
    5. Medical Questionnaire Required – All divers must complete a Diver Medical Questionnaire before diving. The questionnaire is included in your online waiver, and we strongly recommend completing it well before your tour to allow time for any necessary medical clearance.
    6. Doctor's Approval (If Required) – Depending on your answers about current or past medical conditions, you may need a medical clearance signed by an MD or DO. Signatures from physician assistants (PAs), nurses (RNs), or other providers cannot be accepted.
    7. No Medical Clearance, No Diving – If your questionnaire requires a doctor's approval, you cannot participate in the dive without a completed and signed medical release. You may still join the boat trip as a passenger.
    8. Important Refund Policy – No refunds will be issued if you cannot dive because you did not complete the questionnaire or obtain required medical clearance before your tour. Please complete your paperwork as early as possible to avoid missing your dive.
    9. You CANNOT dive if you intend to go to an elevation of 1000 ft (305 m) or higher. This includes flying and going up to visit Haleakala.

    Wildlife Guidelines

Please be respectful of the fact that coral is a living organism and any standing, touching, or knocking over will irreparably damage the organism that takes a very long time to grow and is essential to our marine reefs. Please also be respectful of any marine animals including but not limited to turtles, rays, sharks, seals, and dolphins. Please never chase, harass, feed, or TOUCH any of the marine species. Enjoy their company if they approach from a distance and calmly move away from them if in their path.

    FAQs

Do I need to be a certified diver?

Yes. All of our boat dives are for certified divers only, so please bring your certification card on the day of your dive. If you aren't certified yet, a local Maui dive shop can get you started with an introductory dive or a certification course before you join us.

What if it has been a while since my last dive?

If it has been more than two years since your last dive, you'll need to complete a refresher or a guided shore dive with a local dive shop before your boat dive, or hire a private guide for your dive day (extra fee). If this will be your first ocean dive, we recommend doing a shore dive first – it helps you get comfortable with local conditions and dial in your weighting for salt water, which makes your boat dives so much better.

Do I need to bring my own scuba gear?

No. Masks, fins, and wetsuits are provided at no extra cost, and a BCD and regulator can be rented for an extra fee. There's no need to visit a shop for a fitting ahead of time – just show up at the boat and your gear will be ready. You're also welcome to bring your own equipment. If you dive with a DIN regulator, we usually have DIN adaptors on board, but they occasionally go missing, so check with us ahead of time or bring your own.

    Is Nitrox available?

Yes. Enriched air is available for divers certified to use it, for an extra fee. Please bring your Nitrox certification card.

How old do you have to be to dive with you?

Divers need to be at least 12 years old to join our regular guided groups. Divers who are 10 or 11 have depth limitations and need a private guide, which we can arrange for an additional fee with some advance notice.

Do I need to fill out a medical form?

Yes. All divers must complete the diver medical questionnaire included in your waiver ahead of time. Some answers about current or past medical conditions require a physician's release before you can dive. If you need a release, email it to us in advance and bring the original to the boat. Divers who need a release and arrive without one are welcome aboard as passengers but will not be able to dive, and will not be refunded. If you're already on Maui, same-day medical clinics can often help with a release.

How many people are on the boat, and how big are the dive groups?

Our 46 ft (14 m) custom-built dive boat is Coast Guard certified to carry up to 49 passengers or 36 divers, but we prefer to keep plenty of elbow room – charters typically host around 22 people. Divers are grouped by experience level, with groups usually ranging from 4 to 8 divers. A private guide can be added for an extra fee if you'd like undivided attention.

What facilities are on the boat?

The boat has a restroom (marine head) on board – please keep paper products out of it. Each diver gets a dry bin under their seat for personal items. Space is limited, so please pack light.

    Are food and drinks provided?

Yes. We provide juices, sodas, water, and a variety of snacks like chips, granola bars, and trail mix. On our longer Lanai charters, we also serve wraps or sandwiches for lunch. You're welcome to bring a refillable water bottle and extra snacks, but there is no cooler space on board, so pack items that don't need to stay cold.

When is the best time of year to dive in Maui?

Maui offers great diving year-round. From August through October the water is warmer and the island is typically less crowded, and during humpback whale season (roughly January through April) you may see and even hear whales on your dive day.

    Do you practice sustainable diving?

Yes. We use reef-safe sunscreen, minimize waste on board, and follow respectful diving practices to protect Maui's marine ecosystems. Our crew also briefs divers on how to interact respectfully with marine life.

    Can I fly after diving?

Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:

    • A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 18 hours suggested.
    • Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 24 hours is suggested.
    • Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.

Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!

Can I go hiking or visit Haleakala after diving?

Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.

What sunscreen can I use and why does it matter?

Common sunscreens contain chemicals that can harm coral reefs, as the particles are small enough to be absorbed by corals, causing toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens are formulated without these harmful chemicals. Reef-SAFE sunscreens go a step further by using non-nano particles, which are too large for corals to ingest, helping to preserve marine ecosystems. Please avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Consider wearing sun-protective clothing, like long-sleeve rash guards, as an alternative to sunscreen. If you choose a mineral-based sunscreen, ensure it is labeled 'non-nano.'

What is a Wild Card dive day?

A Wild Card day is when we head to some of our less-dived sites around Maui. Wild Card days do not include Molokini Crater. Conditions, coolness factors, and your special requests decide where we go. The booking calendar shows where we plan to go on a given day, but sites often change based on conditions.

What dive sites could we visit?

Possible sites include Marty's Reef, the St. Anthony, Z Blocks, Mala, Tank, Landing Craft & Triple Anchors, and more.

What marine life can I see on a Wild Card day?

It depends on the sites, but divers often see green sea turtles, rays, reef sharks, eels, and schools of reef fish around Maui's reefs and wrecks.

    What experience do I need?

These sites are a little more off the beaten path and may include drift diving, so you need at least 10 logged dives, excellent buoyancy control, and comfort doing safety stops on the go without a line.

    Cancellation Policy

We have a strictly enforced 48 HOUR CANCELLATION/RESCHEDULE POLICY: There are no refunds for anything changed or cancelled within 48 hours of your check-in time unless we are able to rebook your spaces. Think of these reservations like concert tickets; if you can’t go, you either sell your tickets (in this case, we work to sell them for you) or you forfeit the money you paid for your tickets.

Medical Release May be Required Certified divers should view their waivers well ahead of time in case a physician's release is required to participate in scuba diving. Divers who are required to obtain a medical release to dive and who show up without one will be welcomed aboard as passengers but will not be able to dive nor will be refunded for their spot. The person making the booking is responsible for sharing the waiver with everyone else on the booking.

We cannot guarantee specific dive sites; all locations are dependent on weather conditions. Therefore, we do not issue refunds if we have to divert to a different site than the one planned for the day.
