A Custom Surf Experience Built Around the Conditions!

Skip the crowded beginner beaches and spend the day surfing Maui the way locals do—by going where the waves are best. This private Surfari is designed for surfers who already have experience and want to explore more of what Maui’s coastline has to offer. Instead of staying at a single surf break, your guide monitors conditions and takes you to the spots that are working best that day, giving you the opportunity to surf better waves and experience more of the island.
Think of it as part surf trip, part island adventure. You'll travel the coastline with a knowledgeable local guide who knows where the swell, wind, and tides are lining up. Between sessions, relax on the beach, enjoy included snacks and drinks, and take in some of Maui’s most beautiful coastal scenery. Every day is different, and that’s part of what makes the experience so exciting—your destination is determined by the ocean itself.
Whether you're traveling with friends, family, or as a couple, the Surfari offers a completely private and flexible experience built around your group. It’s perfect for surfers who are comfortable paddling out, catching waves, and want to maximize their time in the water while discovering the surf culture and hidden corners of Maui that many visitors never get to see.

  1. The specific surf location for your Surfari is determined on the morning of your session based on wave and weather conditions. Your guide will coordinate the meeting point with you!

Ages & Requirements

  1. Participants should have prior surfing experience and be comfortable in the ocean!
  2. For safety reasons, children 9 years and younger must book a standard private lesson rather than the Surfari format.
  3. Participants should be strong, confident swimmers comfortable in open ocean conditions.
  4. The base price is for one surfer, additional surfers adds a fee per extra surfer.

What experience level is the Surfari designed for?

The Surfari is for surfers who already have experience in the water and want to explore Maui's coastline in search of the best waves. If you're a beginner or have never surfed before, a group or private surf lesson is the recommended starting point.

Where will we surf on the Surfari?

The location is determined on the morning of your Surfari based on surf and weather conditions. Your guide knows Maui's breaks well and will take you to where the best waves are that day — which could be anywhere along the coast.

Can I choose how long my Surfari is?

Yes — you choose between a 4-hour session or a 6–8 hour full-day adventure. Both options are private and include your guide, all equipment, and snacks and drinks.

What is the difference between the Surfari and a regular private surf lesson?

A standard private lesson takes place at a set beginner-friendly beach and focuses on instruction. The Surfari is a wave-hunting expedition along Maui's coastline — the location changes based on conditions, and it's oriented toward surfers looking for real waves and a more adventurous experience rather than a structured lesson.

Is this a Hawaiian-owned surf school?

Yes. This school has been Hawaiian-owned and operated since 1998 and is one of the oldest surf schools on Maui. The school's heritage in He'e Nalu (surfing, "The Sport of Kings") spans generations.

Cancellation Policy

Customers will receive a full refund with 48 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances, such as medical or an emergency with presenting required documents. Contact us via phone or email to inquire about a cancellation/rescheduled reservation. No-shows will be charged the full amount of the scheduled reservation.
