Go Further, See More

This extended tour offers a deeper, more personal experience of Manchac Swamp. If you've already done our 2-hour tour or simply want to spend more time immersed in the swamp, this is the tour for you. You'll paddle the same stunning Manchac Swamp route, but continue further out to the edge of Lake Maurepas for a scenic lunch stop.

4 hours on the water, 6 hours total including transportation

What Makes This Special

Unlike our standard tour, this extended experience is designed for more experienced kayakers and outdoor enthusiasts. You'll cover more ground, have time for birdwatching with provided binoculars, and use dip nets to catch and identify water critters. Your guide—an experienced local naturalist—will share in-depth knowledge about the ecology, wildlife, and conservation challenges facing Louisiana's wetlands.

FAQs

How fit do I need to be for this tour?

You should have a moderate to high fitness level and be comfortable sitting in a kayak and paddling for a full 4 hours. This tour is designed for more experienced kayakers and outdoor enthusiasts—if you're new to kayaking or unsure, our 2-hour Manchac Wildlife tour may be a better starting point.

What is and isn't included in the price?

The price includes round-trip transportation from New Orleans, all kayaking equipment, an experienced naturalist guide, lunch and a cold beverage, binoculars, and dip nets. Not included are additional snacks and gratuity for your guide.

Where do I meet, and what are the pickup times?

You can meet the group directly at Old U.S. 51, Ponchatoula, LA (specific location after booking the tour) or take advantage of round-trip pickup from 740 N Rampart St., New Orleans. Pickup is at 10:00am with drop-off back in New Orleans at approximately 4:00pm.

Can children participate?

Yes—children ages 6 and up are welcome. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult or have a liability waiver signed by a guardian. Keep in mind this is an intermediate to advanced tour, so it's best suited for older kids who are comfortable on the water.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing along with water shoes or sandals, and bring sunscreen, bug repellent, and plenty of water. A camera with a waterproof case is highly recommended. Cash for guide gratuity is also appreciated.

Are there weight or equipment restrictions I should know about?

Kayaks on this tour have a maximum load capacity of 400 pounds. Both solo and tandem sit-on-top kayaks are available, so just let us know your preference when booking.

Can you guarantee me an exact return time and location?

We generally return to the New Orleans approximately 3.5-4 hours following the scheduled tour time.  Of course traffic and other factors can come into play.

What if it rains?

Gulf weather is notoriously hard to predict and impossible to forecast. A light rain is usually a cool welcome in the spring and the summer months. If the weather is potentially a danger to our customers, we will be in touch ahead of time to reschedule. If we call off a tour due to severe weather/cold and you are not able to reschedule, we do offer a full refund.

What do you wear to a swamp tour?

Dress for the weather and wear light layered breathable, synthetic clothing/swimsuits during the warm months and a warm thermal cover in the winter for your swamp tour. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Sandals or athletic shoes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty.

What makes New Orleans Kayak Swamp Tours different than other swamp tours?

  • We are an eco tour company that does not feed the wildlife!
  • Our kayaks allow easy entry to shallow and narrow waterways that would be inaccessible to larger motorized vessels.
  • Silence is golden.  Without a large motor disturbing the natural setting, we are able to quietly view the wildlife and landscape as it is naturally without having to bait the waters to generate any excitement.
  • Education.  Our guides have a thorough understanding  and knowledge of the history, geology, zoology and current environmental issues regarding our delta.
  • We have new Ford Transit Vehicles for our shuttles.

Where are you located?

  • We start our tour from a roadside boat launch along the edge of the Maurepas Wildlife Management Area 30 miles to the west of New Orleans.  We send the exact coordinates and detailed directions with pictures in a confirmation email upon making a booking.

If I drive, when should I arrive?

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before tour.  If you arrive any earlier, there is a chance our trailer and van wont yet be there to use as a visual marker, but we should be arriving shortly.

Can I take a uber to your meeting location?

PLEASE do not use Uber.  Not only is it much more costly, but our tour leaves from a roadside boat launch with no physical address.  Also, rural Louisiana doesn’t always have the best Uber service.  If you need a ride, USE OUR SHUTTLE SERVICE that you can add during booking.

Cancellation Policy

Activity may be cancelled due to severe weather.

The activity usually runs in light rain, but the seller may cancel the activity up to an hour before the start time in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions.

New Orleans Kayak Swamp Tours offers a 100% refund or rescheduling for tour cancellation due to inclement weather e.g. weather considered hazardous to tour members safety. This includes: lighting storms, unsafe water conditions, wildfires, etc.

Tours still operate in rain as long as the safety of clients is not jeopardized.

100% refund is issued if cancellation is greater than 48 hours before tour time.

No refund is issued for no calls/no shows the morning of the tour.
