Description

Swim with Sea Turtles in Maui — Guided Kayak & Snorkel Tour!

Maui's most popular kayak and snorkel tour — and it's easy to see why. The Makena Turtle Town Eco Adventure is the most complete introductory ocean eco-experience on the island, designed for first-timers, families, and anyone who has dreamed of snorkeling alongside Hawaiian green sea turtles.

Departing from Makena Landing in the early morning, you'll paddle south through the calm, crystal-clear waters of South Maui toward Turtle Town — a stretch of coastline famous for its resident population of Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu). This beginner-level tour includes two snorkel stops, allowing you to get in the water twice for maximum encounter time with the turtles and the reef's colorful inhabitants.

Beyond the turtles, guests regularly encounter manta and eagle rays, octopuses, eels, dolphins, and humpback whales in season (December–April). Your certified guide will share knowledge of Maui's marine life, culture, and history throughout the tour, while keeping the group safe and ensuring everyone — even first-time snorkelers — has a memorable time.

Please also be respectful of any marine animals including but not limited to turtles, rays, sharks, seals, and dolphins. Please never chase, harass, feed, or TOUCH any of the marine species. Enjoy their company if they approach from a distance and calmly move away from them if in their path.

FAQs

How likely is it that we see the Hawaiian green sea turtles?

Yes — your guides nearly always see Hawaiian green sea turtles on this tour. Turtle Town is one of the highest-density sea turtle habitats in Maui, and encounters on this tour are extremely consistent. In the rare event conditions prevent a sighting, please discuss options with the team at the time.

What are two snorkel stops?

The tour includes two separate snorkeling locations along the South Maui coastline, giving you more time and variety in the water. Each stop offers a different slice of the reef ecosystem.

What marine life can I expect to see when snorkeling in Turtle Town?

Hawaiian green sea turtles are guaranteed. Beyond turtles, the reef hosts moray eels, octopuses, manta and eagle rays, parrotfish, triggerfish, surgeonfish, humuhumunukunukuapuaa (Hawaii's state fish), and much more. Dolphins are occasionally sighted kayaking, and humpback whales appear December–April.
