Your two-hour session begins with a thorough land lesson covering ocean safety, board handling, paddling form, and pop-up mechanics — everything you need to know before you paddle out. In the water, your instructor is always close by, helping you select waves, timing your paddle, and giving you real-time feedback after every ride. More waves, more instructor time, and a session fully shaped around your goals!

- We frequently teach at the popular Guardrails surf break near Launiupoko but exact meeting instructions are provided after booking!
Ages & Requirements

- Being a strong swimmer is not a must to take classes, but being able to tread water and feel confident in the ocean is important.
- Prior surfing experience is not required.

It's also recommended for anyone who has previously felt overlooked or under-coached in a group setting.
Does booking a private lesson for my child separate them from the rest of my group?
Not at all. Your child will have their own instructor in the water with them at all times, while the rest of your group participates in their lesson format. The family is still at the beach together — your child just has dedicated eyes on them throughout.
Do I need prior surfing experience?
No. Your instructor will tailor the entire session to your starting point, whether that's your first time on a board or you're working to advance an existing skill.
How is a private lesson different from a semi-private or group lesson?
In a private lesson, the instructor's attention is entirely on you — no other students to divide coaching time between. You'll catch more waves, receive more feedback, and make faster progress.
Do I need to know how to swim to take a lesson?
You don't need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be able to tread water and feel comfortable in the ocean. Anyone who isn't confident in the water — regardless of age — is required to book a private lesson for safety.
What sunscreen should I use?
Common sunscreens contain chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate that harm coral reefs. Please use a reef-safe, mineral-based, non-nano sunscreen. Consider wearing a long-sleeve rash guard as an alternative or complement to sunscreen.
Cancellation Policy
Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
