Description

Private Kiteboarding Lessons in La Ventana, Mexico

Learn or advance your kiteboarding skills on the calm, clear waters of La Ventana Bay, one of Mexico’s most beginner-friendly kite spots. With steady winter winds, wide sandy beaches, and professional IKO-certified instructors, this is the ideal setting to start your kiteboarding journey or refine your technique. Every lesson is private, meaning one instructor per student, ensuring focused coaching and real-time feedback.

You’ll progress step-by-step, beginning with beach-based kite control and safety, followed by body drags, water starts, and your first rides across the bay. Using top-quality Ozone kites, Mystic gear, and waterproof two-way radios, your instructor stays connected with you at all times for clear, effective communication. Whether you book a single session or a multi-day package, you’ll find the right balance of learning, practice, and fun in Baja California Sur.

FAQs

How do lessons work?

Lessons are tailored to your skill level, but here's a sample of kiteboarding progression and lesson focus.

  1. Beach lesson: Learn the theory and safety measures. Gain control of the kite from the beach, then practice in the water under your instructor’s guidance.
  2. Body drag: Reinforce your kite control in the water. You'll practice different body dragging exercises (downwind, upwind, with the board), each essential for progressing to the next level.
  3. Waterstart: Once you’ve mastered kite control, it’s time to try the board. With your instructor's advice, you’ll work on getting up and riding for the first time.
  4. Ride Along: Once you can ride the board, you'll continue practicing by riding along with your instructor in the bay of La Ventana.

What are the differences in lesson packages?

The main difference in lesson packages is the duration and whether they're taken on the same day or across multiple days. Each session has a minimum length of 2 hours. Lessons range from 2 to 12 total hours, spread over 1 to 6 days depending on your selected program:

  • Base Package: 2 hours (1 day) - A great introduction to kiteboarding! This short package gives you a first taste of the sport or a refresher if you’ve tried before.
  • Discovery Package: 3 hours (1 day) - The perfect way to get a taste of the sport! Learn the basics of theory, setup, and safety. Then, you’ll get to fly a kite on the beach and practice kite control in the water!
  • Experience Package: 6 hours (2–3 days) - Perfect for beginners who want to progress beyond the basics. This package balances theory and time in the water to get you started on the board.
  • Experience Plus Package: 12 hours (4–6 days) - Our most complete package. Enough time to learn, repeat, and progress steadily!

How do I get to La Ventana?

There are two main ways to get to La Ventana: from La Paz or from Los Cabos. You’ll need to fly into one of these two airports:

  • La Paz International Airport (LAP) is 45 min away. There are accessible private cars for hire, at around 35USD.
  • San José Del Cabo, airport (SJD) is 2 hours away. There are shared shuttles to La Ventana twice a day: 2PM and 4PM (around 50USD), as well as private cars for hire (around 120USD).

We can happily help you coordinate and book your airport transfer to La Ventana!

How does the booking and payment process work?

After getting in touch with us, when you’re ready to reserve your spot, you’ll have to pay a deposit to reserve your spot.

  • The deposit is 30% of the total amount. It is non-refundable.
  • Then the rest of the payment will be due 60 days before the start of the camp.

We receive payments through Wise, a minimal-hassle, verified currency transfer platform and bank by which we can receive transfers from any bank (like an international Venmo!). With the most accessible transfer fees and very good currency exchange rates.

What if there is no wind?

As with any kite spot, perfect wind is no guarantee. If there are days without good enough wind to take kite lessons, we will enjoy the other amazing activities La Ventana has to offer: snorkeling in the bay, hiking and/or mountain biking in the desert, getting a massage, and more.

Do I need previous experience?

No! We provide all the gear you need and our instructors will tailor the lessons to each student level.

When is the wind season in La Ventana ?

November to April is our high season, with the most reliable and stable winds!

Is all the gear included in the kite lessons?

Yes, the kite lessons includes all the gear you need: wetsuit, safety gear, harness, kite, bar, board, and waterproof communication device.

Do I need a wetsuit?

The wind and water can get quite chilly during the winter. You will need a wetsuit.

Wetsuits are included in the kite lessons. However, we always recommend bringing your own, mainly for hygiene reasons but also to guarantee a proper fit.

Recommended level of thickness: 3/2 or 4/3.
