Description

Klamath River - Irongate "Kucascas" Dam Scenic Float

With the historic removal of the Klamath River dams—the largest dam removal project in U.S. history—the river is reclaiming its natural flow for the first time in over a century. This transformation has created an enormous amount of interest in seeing the river post-dam, and we wanted to offer a trip for everyone—including those who prefer to avoid Class IV+ rapids.

This family-friendly, easygoing float is perfect for all ages and skill levels. We’ll use larger rafts equipped with backrests, and no paddling is required. For those seeking a little more adventure, we’ll bring inflatable kayaks that can be paddled or towed, depending on your interest.

This ¾-day trip includes lunch and offers a unique opportunity to witness the river’s revitalization. The Klamath River ecosystem is undergoing an incredible transformation, with renewed salmon runs, reshaped riverbanks, and the return of native plant and animal species. As we float from Fall Creek to Bush Creek, our knowledgeable guides will share insights into the Klamath’s history, the impact of the dam removal, and what this means for local wildlife, Indigenous communities, and the future of the river.

Expect to see deer, geese, osprey, eagles, and other birdlife and waterfowl, as well as changing landscapes that were once submerged beneath the reservoirs. We’ll take a break for a riverside snack and soak in the beauty of this newly restored waterway.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience a river in transition—come be part of history on the Klamath!

FAQs

What is the difficulty level of this trip?

This is a scenic float trip, meaning it is easy and family-friendly with no required paddling. The larger rafts have backrests for comfort, and we also bring inflatable kayaks for those who want a little more adventure.

Will I see wildlife?

More than likely! The Klamath River is home to osprey, eagles, deer, river otters, and waterfowl. Since the dam removal, the river is undergoing an ecological revival, so you may also see signs of new vegetation and returning fish species.

How many people fit in a raft?

In general, six guests plus the guide will fit in a raft.

Are dogs and pets allowed?

As much as we love dogs and other pets, they are not allowed on commercial river trips. There are local options for pet boarding and we recommend booking a spot with them in advance. Please do not leave your pets unattended in or around your vehicle.

Is there a weight limit?

The only requirement is that guests can fit into the PFDs (personal flotation devices). If anyone is unable to fit we can’t take them out on the river.

Do people ever fall out of the raft?

This is a scenic float, so it is very unlikely that anyone would fall out of the raft.

Is there a guide on each raft?

Yes. Each raft has a highly qualified guide with extensive rescue training. All guides are first aid and CPR certified and many of our guides have more extensive medical training.

Are raft trips canceled due to weather?

Raft trips depart daily rain, smoke or shine and are almost never canceled with the exception of an extreme event that is an unacceptable risk or level of safety.
