Lowe River Whitewater Rafting – Valdez, Alaska

Explore the wild beauty of Alaska on a guided whitewater rafting trip through the heart of Keystone Canyon. The Lowe River winds between towering rock walls and beneath cascading waterfalls, offering an unforgettable way to experience the landscapes around Valdez.

Your day starts with a safety briefing and basic paddling instruction before launching onto a mellow stretch of Class I–II rapids—ideal for getting comfortable on the water. As the canyon narrows, the pace picks up with splashy Class III rapids that add excitement without overwhelming first-timers. It's a great introduction to whitewater for families and adventurous travelers alike.

Along the way, we’ll take a break to walk up to Bridal Veil Falls, one of several massive waterfalls that pour down the cliffs of the canyon. Between rapids, you’ll have time to soak in the views of Thompson Pass and keep an eye out for wildlife along the riverbanks.

This half-day outing offers the perfect mix of active fun and time in nature—an ideal Alaskan experience for groups and families who love to get outside and explore together.

What class of rapids are on the Lowe River?

The trip starts with calm Class I–II rapids so you can get comfortable, and then progresses to fun Class III rapids in Keystone Canyon. These are splashy and exciting, but still manageable for beginners.

Will I get wet?

Rafting runs rain or shine—after all, it's Alaska! Trips may be rescheduled only in the event of severe weather or unsafe river conditions.
