Description
Makena Bay "Turtle Town" Reef Kayaking & Snorkeling Trip
As morning light illuminates Haleakalā and the West Maui Mountains, set off from Makena Bay, gliding across calm, glassy waters in a stable sit-on-top kayak. Your guides lead you toward "Turtle Town," a stretch of reef famous for its high concentration of Hawaiian green sea turtles, where you'll slip into water that's almost 80°F (27°C) to snorkel alongside honu gliding through the coral below.
Along the way, keep an eye out for spinner dolphins, manta and eagle rays, octopus, eels, and the occasional Hawaiian monk seal. During whale season (October through April), Humpback whales frequently pass through the bay on their annual migration, and sightings are common right from the kayak.
The tour includes one long snorkel stop or two shorter ones, giving everyone plenty of time in the water before paddling back to the beach.
