FAQs
Do I need prior experience to rent a kayak or paddleboard at Lady Bird Lake?
Not at all! Our rentals are beginner-friendly. You’ll receive a life vest, paddle, and a quick safety briefing so you can confidently explore Lady Bird Lake.
Where do I pick up the kayaks or paddleboards?
All rentals meet at the dock on Lady Bird Lake. Look for the rental team near the waterfront and check in on-site.
What is the best time of day to paddle at Lady Bird Lake?
In the summer months, we recommend coming early in the morning to beat the crowds (and the heat!).
Are life vests required?
Yes. Per Texas State Law, life vests are required for everyone and must be worn at all times for anyone 13 years and younger. Per ARC policy, guests 14 and older must wear their life vests to board their watercraft and are encouraged to wear it for the entirety of their paddle
Do you have storage for my belongings?
We offer complimentary storage space in our open face cubbies, but we do not have any locking storage. We have phone pouches available for purchase, and dry bags available for rent. We recommend leaving behind any non-essential items at home.
Do you have bathrooms or changing facilities?
We do! We have indoor bathrooms on the upper level of the Boathouse. Ask our desk staff for the code before heading out onto the water.
Can we bring coolers or food and drinks with us?
Yes! Food and drinks are allowed. Please no alcohol, glass, or styrofoam on Lady Bird Lake. Don’t forget to pack out your trash with you!
Can we swim in the lake?
No. The City of Austin does not allow swimming in Lady Bird Lake.
Do you have parking at your location?
No. There is no parking at our location. We recommend metered parking along downtown streets, or the Convention Center garage (201 East 2nd St – with entrances on Brazos St and San Jacinto).
