Description
Ride from the Kāʻanapali Coast to Panoramic Views Above West Maui!
Trade the resort coastline for the hills above Kāʻanapali on a two-hour self-guided e-bike adventure that takes you from sea-level scenery toward sweeping views over West Maui. Electric pedal assist helps take the work out of the climb, letting you focus on the changing landscape as you leave the coast behind and make your way toward the former coffee-growing country above Kāʻanapali.
The route climbs toward the ridge overlooking the historic coffee plantation estate, where elevated viewpoints open across Kāʻanapali, the Pacific, and the surrounding West Maui landscape. The area has a fascinating coffee-growing history, including cultivation of several Arabica varieties and the distinctive Maui Mokka. While the private plantation itself is not open for riding or touring on this experience, the surrounding route still gives you a chance to see a very different side of Kāʻanapali than you'll find along the beach.
Because the ride is self-guided, you can move at your own pace, stop for photos, and spend your two hours exploring the scenery that interests you most. It's a great option if you want to get away from the resort strip for a bit, put your e-bike's pedal assist to work on the hills, and see Kāʻanapali from above rather than just from the shoreline.

FAQs
Can I visit the coffee plantation itself on this ride?
No. The coffee plantation is private property and is not currently open for guests to ride through or tour due to concerns surrounding the coffee berry borer pest. Your self-guided route instead takes you into the hills above Kāʻanapali, where you can enjoy elevated views overlooking the historic coffee-growing area and learn a little about this side of West Maui’s agricultural history.
If tasting Maui-grown coffee is on your list, you can visit the MauiGrown Coffee Company Store separately to sample locally grown coffee, including varieties associated with the former Kāʻanapali Coffee Farms. The coffee stop is not included as part of the e-bike experience, so plan it separately if you'd like to add it to your day.
Is this a coffee farm tour?
No. This is a self-guided scenic e-bike ride through Kāʻanapali and the surrounding coffee-country landscape, rather than a guided agricultural or plantation tour. The main highlights are the ride itself, elevated ocean views, and seeing a different side of Kāʻanapali away from the resort coastline.
What will I see along the Kāʻanapali Skyline route?
Expect a mix of West Maui coastline, hillside scenery, former coffee-growing country, and elevated views over Kāʻanapali and the Pacific. The route gives you a very different perspective from exploring Kāʻanapali at beach level, with plenty of opportunities to stop for photos and enjoy the scenery along the way.
What rules should I follow while riding my e-bike in Maui?
E-bikes follow the same basic rules of the road as bicycles. Ride on the right side of the road in the same direction as traffic, obey traffic lights, signs, and lane markings, and use hand signals when turning or stopping. When riding with others, travel single file rather than side-by-side.
Stay off sidewalks, golf course paths, and anywhere marked “No Bikes.” If you'll be riding around dusk or after dark, make sure your bike lights are turned on so you're easier for drivers and other road users to see.
Do I need previous e-bike experience?
No previous e-bike experience is required, but you do need to already know how to ride a bicycle confidently. Riders should be comfortable balancing, pedaling, braking, mounting and dismounting, and making controlled turns. Before you set off, you'll receive an orientation covering the e-bike controls and pedal-assist system so you can get comfortable with how everything works.
What is E-Bike Rescue, and what does it cover?
E-Bike Rescue is optional coverage that can be added before your ride for $10. It covers assistance for flat tires and electronic failures within a 7.5-mile (12 km) radius in West Maui.
Coverage does not extend north of Honolua Bay or south of Olowalu. Assistance outside the covered area may still be available for an additional fee based on distance. Running out of battery outside the West Maui boundaries is also not covered. If you'd like E-Bike Rescue, make sure to add it before beginning your ride.
How long does an e-bike battery last?
Battery range varies based on the bike, rider weight, terrain, gearing, and how much pedal assist you use. Typically, standard e-bikes can travel approximately 12–30 miles (19–48 km) per charge, while premium e-bikes may reach approximately 30–60 miles (48–97 km).
To conserve battery, use lower levels of pedal assist when you don't need the extra power and shift into an appropriate lower gear when climbing hills. If the battery does run out, you can still pedal and shift gears like a regular bicycle.
