Description
Take-Away Inflatable Kayak Rentals in Hood River
Inflatable kayaks are great for flatwater paddling or mild whitewater trips, like the Lower Klickitat River. These are also a perfect option for experienced whitewater paddlers to explore sections of the White Salmon River, or even take along on a multi-day trip on the nearby Deschutes River.
For calmer outings, these kayaks are perfect for exploring local lakes and quieter waterways. Popular spots include Memaloose Lake, Lake Celilo, Laurance Lake, Lost Lake, and smaller Columbia River tributaries, where you can enjoy wildlife, peaceful paddling, and stunning Gorge scenery. Inflatable kayaks give you the freedom to create your own adventure, whether it’s a single-day excursion or a multi-day exploration of the Columbia River Gorge.

FAQs
Can I take the inflatable kayak anywhere?
Yes! Inflatable kayaks are portable and easy to transport. You can launch directly from The Hook in Hood River or pack it in your car to explore other rivers and lakes throughout the Columbia Gorge.
What types of water are these kayaks good for?
Inflatable kayaks are great for flatwater paddling and mild whitewater. They’re perfect for exploring local lakes, the Columbia River, or calmer river stretches like the Lower Klickitat River. More experienced paddlers may also use them on sections like the Lower White Salmon, or multi-day trips on the Lower Deschutes River.
How do I transport the kayak?
Inflatable kayaks roll up to fit in almost any vehicle. Each rental includes a pump, so you can easily inflate and deflate the kayak wherever you choose to launch.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience is required for flatwater paddling or class I-II whitewater, and inflatable kayaks are stable enough for beginners. However, if you plan to take your rental on more serious whitewater, we recommend previous paddling experience and comfort in moving water.
Do I need a reservation to rent?
Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak summer season.
What are the best lakes for kayaking nearby?
- Lost Lake – A stunning alpine lake at the base of Mt. Hood with crystal-clear water and unbeatable views.
- Trillium Lake – Another iconic Mt. Hood lake with calm conditions, perfect for a relaxing paddle.
- Timothy Lake – A larger option with more shoreline to explore, ideal for a longer day trip.
Are there easy spots for families and beginners?
Yes! Lost Lake and Trillium Lake are especially beginner- and family-friendly thanks to their calm, sheltered waters.
Can I paddle on the Hood River itself?
The lower Hood River is not appropriate for beginners, and water levels are dependent on rain, so it doesn't run in the summer. Instead, we recommend heading to nearby lakes where the water is calmer.
