Description
Dive into Honolua Bay’s Protected Reefs & Search for Maui’s Marine Life!
Cruise along Maui’s coastline toward Honolua Bay Marine Preserve, where protected waters and diverse reef habitat create an incredible destination for a morning beneath the surface. Especially popular during the summer months, this boat dive trades a long offshore crossing for a scenic ride of approximately 30 minutes up the coast, getting you into the water at one of Northwest Maui’s best-known marine areas.
Once below the surface, take your time exploring Honolua Bay’s reef while searching for the marine life that makes this area such an exciting place to dive. Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu) are a major highlight, while sharp-eyed divers may also discover camouflaged frogfish tucked into the reef. And if you're especially fortunate, manta rays are among the larger visitors that can occasionally pass through these waters. Exact sightings are never guaranteed, which means every descent has the potential to reveal something different.
Summer is an especially popular time to explore Maui’s North Shore and Honolua Bay, when seasonal ocean conditions can create excellent opportunities for morning diving. Your dive team will evaluate the day’s conditions and plan the experience accordingly, allowing you to focus on exploring the reef rather than worrying about where to dive.
For certified divers who would rather spend their morning searching for sea turtles, unusual reef creatures, and diverse underwater terrain than chasing maximum depth or exploring a wreck, Honolua Bay offers a beautiful change of pace—and a chance to experience one of Maui’s protected marine environments from beneath the surface.

FAQs
When does this trip run?
Summer is the most popular season for this charter, though exact seasonal availability will depend on conditions.
How deep is this dive?
Maximum depth is 40 feet (12.2 m).
What makes Honolua Bay different from other dive sites?
It's a marine preserve, which means less disturbance to the reef over time and a wider range of marine life, including occasional manta ray sightings alongside the more common turtles and frogfish.
Do you have DIN tanks?
Yes, we need 2 days advance notice.
Can I get nitrox? What blend Nitrox do you have? What percentage is the Nitrox?
Yes, we need 1 day advance notice. Nitrox blend is 32%
Would you recommend steel tanks (“100’s”) since I tend to go through my air fast?
It depends on your dimensions (height and weight) if it will be beneficial for you. If you are over 210 lbs we recommend steel tanks. Also known as “100’s”
Can I go to Hana the day after I dive?
Yes, there is no elevation gain to worry about.
Can I drive up to Haleakala (volcano)?
No, wait 18 – 24 hours before ascending to altitude.
Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.
Can I fly after diving?
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
- A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 18 hours suggested.
- Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 24 hours is suggested.
- Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
I have my own regulator can I just rent the BCD?
Yes; when you make your reservation you can select which add-ons are right for you: you can either rent a Full Set of dive gear or by the piece.
As of 2021 we are providing any gear rental you need for no extra charge.
Do I need my scuba certification card?
Yes, you need to show your scuba certification card at check in in order to participate in our Maui diving excursion. Proof of certification is accepted, for example, if the office has verified you or you have a Dive Check through PADI.
Can I bring my own tanks? Is there a discount if I do?
Yes, you can bring your own tanks. There is no discount as tanks do not cost extra, they are included.
Can I use all of my own equipment?
Yes, and you do need a computer on for boat dives.

72 Hour Cancellation Policy strictly enforced. We run small groups intentionally. 5 divers to 1 guide means every seat matters. A last minute cancellation leaves us with an empty seat and a diver we've already sent elsewhere. When you give us your credit card information to hold a reservation, you are agreeing to the following cancellation terms and conditions:
If the cancellation notification is received more than 72 hours from the start of the tour or class there will be a 20% fee charged.
If the cancellation notification is received less than 72 hours from the start of the tour or class there will be a 100% cancellation fee charged to your credit card.
Cancellations only accepted during business hours: Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 4:30 PM, Sunday 7:30 AM to 3 PM (HST). Messages left on voicemail do not constitute an accepted cancellation.
If you are required to have a doctor's note for a "YES" answer on the medical waiver for any Intro to Scuba Dive or Certification class and you fail to bring that with you or provide it BEFORE the start of the class you WILL NOT be permitted to dive and you WILL NOT receive a refund for the booking. Additionally, if you cannot swim or for any other reason do not complete your dive you will not be given a refund.
Extended Horizons’ cancellation policy supersedes all previous credit card agreements you have with your credit card company.
