Hilton Head Surf Lessons - Sonesta Resort

• Surfboards are usually long and narrow, ridden standing up, and demand a high level of balance and ability
• Boogie boards are shorter, wider, and ridden lying down, which makes them easier to learn and control in larger waves.

This is a beginner-friendly activity. With the guidance of our expert trainers, you will be able to understand the instructions and be confidently riding the waves in no time, regardless of your level of surfing experience.

You don't have to be a great swimmer, but it's better if you know how to swim at least a little. Even kids may feel safe surfing with the safety gear we give and the help of our instructors. As long as you are comfortable in the water, you are good to go!

If the weather will make a program unsafe or not enjoyable (heavy rain or very high winds) we may decide not to go. The weather in the South Carolina Lowcountry changes often. We usually make decisions about possible inclement weather one hour prior to the scheduled departure time.

All of our programs have limited availability. Reservations should be made as soon as you are certain of the program and dates you are interested in. Reservations are accepted up to 12 months in advance.

All lessons are held at Shipyard Beach, near the Sonesta Resort on Hilton Head Island.

• Group clinics are limited to 4 guests per instructor to keep the experience personal and safe.
• Private lessons offer one-on-one or small private group instruction, perfect for more personalized attention.

Wetsuits are not required during the warm summer months, as the ocean temperatures around Hilton Head are typically comfortable. However, if you tend to get cold easily or are joining us in the spring or fall, you’re welcome to bring your own wetsuit or rash guard for added warmth and sun protection. We do not currently provide wetsuit rentals.
