Description

Healdsburg Wine Country Bike & Wine Tasting Tour

Imagine cycling through Provence without ever leaving California. Sun-kissed vines, olive trees, golden hills, and quiet back roads that lead from one family-owned winery to the next — that's exactly what awaits you on this beloved bike and wine tasting tour through Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valley in Healdsburg.

This is one of the most scenic cycling routes in all of Northern California Wine Country. You'll pedal 10–12 miles (16–19 km) along freshly paved, low-traffic back roads, stopping at two to three carefully chosen wineries along the way. At one of the stops, your guide will lay out a gourmet picnic lunch in the vineyard — a local sandwich, fresh salad, and dessert. Along the route, you'll get a personal "Grapes 101" education, walking among the vines to learn about varietals, growing seasons, and winemaking. Routes are suitable for all abilities and experience levels.

E-bike upgrades are included for Healdsburg tours — ride a top-of-the-line Specialized or Velotric electric bike at no extra cost. Your professional local guide handles everything: winery navigation, the picnic spread, wine education, and even transporting any bottles you pick up along the way. This tour has been voted the best adventure tour in the region for seven years in a row, and with over 700 five-star reviews, it's easy to see why.

Some of the wineries your guide may take you to include Pasterick, Mill Creek, Quivira, Martorana, Bella, Preston, Amista, Papapietro Perry, Mauritson, Dry Creek Vineyard, and many others, depending on the season and availability.

What wineries will we visit?

Your guide selects the best wineries based on the day, season, and group preferences. Past stops have included Pasterick, Mill Creek, Quivira, Martorana, Bella, Preston, Amista, Papapietro Perry, Mauritson, Dry Creek Vineyard, and others in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valley appellations.

How far will we ride?

You'll cover 10–12 miles (16–19 km) total, spread out over the day with regular stops at wineries and a picnic lunch break. The pace is relaxed and comfortable.

Is an e-bike included, or is it an upgrade?

For the Healdsburg tour, an e-bike is included at no extra charge. All guests ride Specialized or Velotric electric bikes.

What's for lunch?

Your guide prepares a gourmet wine country picnic featuring a locally sourced sandwich (which can be selected at checkout), fresh salad, and dessert, enjoyed at one of the vineyards you visit.

What happens if it rains?

Tours operate rain or shine. Complimentary ponchos are provided for light rain. If there is a 50%+ chance of rain within 24 hours of your tour time, you may cancel for a refund (minus $25/person) or receive a full-value voucher.

Can I request a different bike style?

Yes — road bikes and touring bikes are available upon request. Let the outfitter know your preference when booking.

Will there be photos taken on the tour?

Your guide may take photos throughout the day. You're also welcome to bring your own camera or phone for photos — just be mindful of winery photography policies.

How long has this company been operating in Wine Country?

Your guides have been running bike, kayak, and hiking tours through Sonoma County and Napa Valley since 1991 — making this the longest continuously owned bike tour company in the region. All guides are locals with deep expertise in wine, local history, flora, fauna, and the best roads and trails in the area.

What types of bikes are available on guided tours?

Guided day tours use Specialized Crossroads hybrid bikes with upright handlebars and front bags for personal items. Healdsburg tours include a complimentary e-bike upgrade (Specialized or Velotric). Road bikes and touring bikes can also be requested for those who prefer them.

What is the difficulty level of the bike tours?

The Sip 'n Cycle routes are designed for energetic beginners and are mostly flat with a few gentle rolling hills. Typical tour distance is 10–15 miles (16–24 km), spread over the full day with stops approximately every 5 miles (8 km). Guests who want a higher difficulty level or more miles should let the guides know ahead of time.

How many people will be on a public tour?

Public day tours typically have 6–8 guests, with a maximum of 12. Private tours are also available for a more exclusive experience.

Are private tours available?

Yes — all activities are available as private experiences, making them ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, wedding parties, family gatherings, and corporate groups. Contact the outfitter directly to customize a private itinerary.

Are wine tasting fees included?

Wine tasting fees are not included in the tour price. In many cases, guests can share a tasting with another member of the group, and many wineries will waive the fee if you make a purchase or join their wine club.

What is the weather like in Healdsburg?

From early May through October or November, it typically does not rain. Mornings can be foggy but not cold. Summer highs range from the 70s–90s°F (21–32°C) with low humidity. Tours run rain or shine.

When are tours available?

Day tours are available 365 days a year, subject to weather and availability. Tours require a minimum of two guests. Note that most wineries are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and Easter — call ahead if planning to tour on those days.

Do I need to book in advance?

Advance booking is recommended, especially during peak season (May–October) and on weekends. The minimum group size is two guests for guaranteed departures.

Can I bring my child on a bike tour?

The tours are kid friendly; however, some wineries restrict entry to guests 21 and over. Notify the outfitter of your child's age when booking so they can route the tour accordingly.
