Description
Half-Day Family Slot Canyon Tour – Guided Canyoneering for Kids 12 & Under
Some of the best travel memories don't come from seeing something—they come from doing something together. A slot canyon is one of those places where kids and parents get to try hard things side by side: squeezing through narrow sandstone passages, scrambling over natural obstacles, and rappelling with a guide's steady hand in the background. The Half-Day Family Slot Canyon Tour is built specifically for families with children 12 and under, and it delivers exactly that—real adventure, at a pace that feels exciting and safe for everyone in the group.
No experience with ropes, knots, or rappelling is needed. Guides handle all the technical systems and instruction, and the approach throughout the day is challenge by choice—kids are never pushed beyond their comfort level, and every obstacle is an invitation rather than a requirement. The canyon is selected based on your family's ages, comfort level, and what will make the day most meaningful. That flexibility is the point: every trip is shaped around who's on it.
The half-day format is ideal for younger kids, families working around a packed Zion itinerary, or those who want a genuine taste of canyoneering without a full-day commitment. All family tours are private, meaning no other guests join your group. The canyon is yours, and the guide's full attention is on your family.

FAQs
What age is this designed for?
This tour is specifically designed for families with at least one child between 5 and 12 years old. The pace, canyon selection, and guide approach are all tailored to make the experience developmentally appropriate and genuinely fun for kids in that range.
Does my child need to know how to rappell?
No prior experience is needed for anyone in the group. Guides teach everything from scratch in a supportive, age-appropriate way.
Will we get wet?
Possibly — some canyons have shallow pools depending on conditions and time of year. Guides factor this into their canyon selection. It's worth mentioning any concerns about water or cold to staff when booking.
Is this a private canyoneering tour?
Yes, your group will not be combined with other guests, and the guide's full attention is on your family throughout the day.
What is the difference between that half-day and full-day family canyoneering tour?
The half-day covers a shorter, more focused canyon with fewer rappels and a lighter time commitment — ideal for younger kids or families working around other plans. The full-day goes deeper, with more canyon, more features, and a bigger sense of backcountry adventure. Both are excellent; the right choice depends on your kids' ages, stamina, and appetite for adventure.
How far in advance should I book?
Early reservations are advised. Summer dates fill 30–45 days in advance. Book early to secure your preferred date and start time.
Cancellation Policy
Full payment is due at the time of booking. Cancellations more than 3 days in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 72 hours of trip start time are non-refundable. Weather conditions do not permit clients to cancel trips. If your Zion Adventures® guide determines conditions make the event unsafe, we will reschedule or make every effort to provide a comparable experience; if not possible, all purchases will be refunded in full.
