Description

Leisurely Half-Day Guided Snowshoe Tour in Grand Teton National Park

Experience the serene beauty of Grand Teton National Park on a half-day guided snowshoe adventure designed for guests who prefer a relaxed pace. Offered as a group tour or private tour, this four-hour outing lets you immerse yourself in the quiet wonder of Wyoming’s winter landscapes while learning about snow science, wildlife behavior, and the ecology that sustains life in the cold season.
Your naturalist guide will lead you through open meadows, aspen groves, and forested trails at the base of the Teton Range. With plenty of time to pause for photos, enjoy snacks, and interpret animal tracks, this tour invites you to slow down and connect with nature. If you can walk, you can snowshoe—no experience required.

FAQs

Can we see wildlife during the tour?

Yes — Grand Teton National Park is home to elk, moose, bison, foxes, coyotes, eagles, and more. While sightings are never guaranteed, your guide is skilled at spotting tracks, signs, and animals moving through the snow.

What’s the difference between a group and private tour?

Group tours pair guests with other groups for a relaxed, social outing. Private tours are customized to your party’s pace, interests, and desired level of exertion — whether you prefer a gentle walk or an aerobic workout.

Will we enter Grand Teton National Park?

Yes — all snowshoe tours take place within Grand Teton National Park under a National Park Service permit.

How physically demanding is the tour?

This leisurely tour moves at a comfortable conversational pace with frequent stops.

Are restrooms available along the route?

There are restrooms at the trailhead, but not along the route. Please plan to use facilities before departure.

Can we bring our own snacks or drinks?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring personal snacks or beverages, though we provide plenty of refreshments and hot drinks.

Are your guides certified?

All guides are Wilderness First Responders, an intensive 80-hour first aid certification.

Should I tip my guide?

While gratuity is never expected, it is always appreciated if you feel it is deserved. Gratuities typically range from 10-20% of the tour cost.

How much driving is involved?

Yellowstone tours take approximately 12 hours, covering 260 miles round trip. Full-day Grand Teton tours take about 8 hours, covering about 90 miles round trip. Our half-day tours span roughly 4 hours, driving 45 miles round trip.

Who goes on these tours?

Everyone! We have toured with locals, seasonal homeowners and their friends, first-time visitors and those who have been to the area many times, science teachers, corporate groups, families, couples, friends, college buddies…the list goes on. We also see many of our guests return year after year.

What kind of vehicle do you use?

Your guide will pick you up in one of our safari-style vehicles where every guest is guaranteed a window seat. Sit back and relax in our fine leather captain's chairs, or stand up in our custom rooftop hatches to get a closer view.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

No problem! Just let us know. We are happy to provide specific items if a guest has an allergy or a dietary preference.

Can I take photos on tours? Can I bring my camera?

Of course! We encourage all of our guests to take photos. Our sliding windows and custom roof hatches offer a 15-ft. vantage point for great photo opportunities. While some of our guests tour with their smartphone cameras, others bring high-end photography equipment. We try to balance everyone’s interests on our tours so if you would prefer a photography-focused trip, we would recommend a private tour.

How big are group sizes?

To guarantee a window seat for every guest, we generally allow no more than 7 guests per trip. Our small group size gives us the opportunity to provide a more personalized experience in the parks. For private tours, we can accommodate up to 10 guests per vehicle. For private parties with more than 10 guests, we can take multiple vehicles. If you are traveling with a group of 11+ and prefer to be together in one vehicle, we can arrange a coach-style bus, driver, and guide.

Do you have any age restrictions?

We are family-friendly and love opening kids’ eyes to the wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. When families with children join us, we cater our stops and information to be tangible for all ages to make sure we keep the kids engaged during the entire tour. Considering the length of our tours, they may not be ideal for infants or young toddlers, but from our experience, all kids are different and you know your kids best. If you think there is a chance that your child might be disruptive, we ask you to consider booking a private tour. Likewise, if you would prefer to be on a tour without children, please let us know. We prefer that you bring your own car seat or booster, but we also have some available for no charge.

What to we eat on tours?

We provide a range of locally produced, all natural and/or organic snacks on all of our tours, including dried fruit, healthy trail mix, bison or beef jerky, freshly baked blueberry muffins, and energy bars. For our drink selection we provide reusable water bottles (at no extra charge), orange juice on all morning departures, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and flavored sparkling water. Specifically for our early morning departures, we’ll greet you with organic French press coffee–made on-site–and orange juice. On all full day tours, we provide lunch at either a historic park lodge or picnic style in a beautiful location. All food is included.

Can I still tour with you if I'm traveling by myself?

Absolutely! All we ask is that you join an existing tour as we do have a two-person minimum for tour departure. If your time is limited and you need to book a specific date, you can agree to pay for two seats. If others book your tour, you are only responsible for the cost of one seat. If no one else books, you can enjoy your own private tour for the cost of two seats. Alternatively, tell us a range of dates that would work for you. When others book a tour, we can call you to see if you would like to join a tour on that date.

How far in advance should I make my reservation?

We encourage you to make your reservation with us as soon as your travel plans and accommodations are in place as we are typically completely booked during the summer season. We do get some cancellations and have some last-minute availability, so be sure to check our availability if you are trying to tour in the next few days. You can see our live availability on our website or by calling us directly.

Do you ever cancel due to bad weather?

It is unusual but yes, we do. If we cancel, we offer a full refund. This typically only happens during the winter months when driving conditions are hazardous or visibility is extremely limited. During the summer months, we generally tour rain or shine. Afternoon thunderstorms typically pass within 30 minutes and overcast or drizzly summer days are actually quite good for viewing wildlife as lower air temperatures promote wildlife activity.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy:
A 10% non-refundable deposit is charged at the time of booking. Beyond that, we have a 48-hour cancellation policy — cancellations made within 48 hours of your tour's departure will forfeit the full tour cost.

Once we're within 48 hours of your tour, we've already allocated guides, vehicles, and logistical support to your reservation, so cancellations at that point aren't refundable.

As with any trip, unexpected situations can arise—illness, personal emergencies, or travel and weather disruptions. We recommend protecting your investment with travel insurance.

The remaining balance will be charged to the card on file 48 hours before your tour. We're also happy to accept cash on the day of your tour — just let us know in advance so we don't run the card.
