Description

Waterfalls, Jungle Trails & Maui Adventure—Without the Full-Day Drive!

Short on time but still want to experience the waterfalls, rainforest, and adventure that make the Road to Hāna famous? This private half-day tour packs some of East Maui’s most exciting experiences into a shorter journey, with an emphasis on getting out of the vehicle and actually exploring. Rather than spending the entire day driving to Hāna and back, you'll focus on the earlier stretches of the famous highway, where hidden beaches, waterfall trails, bamboo forest, and local treats are waiting.

Your adventure may begin with a stop at a quiet North Shore beach where Hawaiian green sea turtles are sometimes seen resting near the water before continuing into Maui’s rainforest. From there, follow your guide along short jungle and cliffside trails to secluded waterfalls where you can cool off in freshwater pools—or, if conditions allow and you're feeling adventurous, take an optional jump from the rocks. Another short hike leads into a bamboo forest and hidden swimming hole, complete with a rope swing for those ready to make a splash.

Not every stop has to be high-energy. Take an easy walk through Keʻanae Arboretum, where a paved pathway winds among more than 150 species of tropical plants, then head toward the rugged Keʻanae Peninsula for dramatic views of waves crashing against Maui's volcanic coastline. Along the way, you'll also get a taste of the Road to Hāna with a stop for freshly baked local banana bread.

Because the experience is completely private, your guide can adjust the adventure to fit your group. Families with younger children can keep things relaxed with shorter walks and scenic stops, while more adventurous groups can prioritize waterfalls, swimming, and trails. It's an ideal way to experience the rainforest, waterfalls, local flavors, and hidden corners of the Road to Hāna while still leaving plenty of your Maui day free for whatever comes next.

FAQs

I’m arriving by cruise ship, what happens if the ship can’t dock on the day of our tour?

We know that sometimes cruise schedules change unexpectedly. Here’s how we handle those situations.

If your ship is unable to dock in Maui or has to leave early due to rough seas, you will receive a full refund for your tour. Our standard cancellation policy allows for a full refund if you cancel at least 48 hours before your tour.

While we will certainly process your refund,  we also encourage you to inquire about availability to reschedule your tour for the following day.

If it’s raining, do you cancel the tour?

We do not cancel tours because of weather unless there is an island wide storm where there are road closures. Did you know Hana gets 115 inches of rain a year? That translates to frequent showers in this area which is what gives us our lush jungle and beautiful flowing waterfalls. That said, it is quite possible that we could encounter some rain. We have everything to keep you comfortable regardless of the weather conditions. Don’t worry, it’s not always rainy in Hana! We often encounter beautiful sunny days perfect for dipping in a waterfall and experiencing the beautiful beaches of the area. We will make sure you have fun regardless of the weather conditions.

I get motion sickness, will I still be able to enjoy this tour?

If you get motion sickness at all, even the slightest, we cannot recommend enough the “Less Drowsy Dramamine” or “Bonine” with the active ingredient Meclizine. These products can be found at any drugstore and most ABC convenience stores. We do not recommend the Original Dramamine as it can make you drowsy nor do we recommend the “Non-Drowsy Dramamine” as it simply doesn’t work for most people.

To win the game, take 1 the evening before and 1 in the morning upon waking up and you are golden! It’s been a life saver on many occasions. There are over 600 turns out there. The difference between having an amazing experience and suffering is not worth being unprepared. We’ve seen it so many times.

Will there be other guests on our tour or just us?

All of our tours are private and personalized for you.  Your tour will include whoever is in your group, and your lovely guide! We specialize in customizing the experience to your interests, making your tour personal and unique. This is unlike the bus tours that advertise as small group tours that make stops based on everyone else’s preferences. However, if you’d like to add others to YOUR group (friends, family, etc.), just let us know and we’ll make sure you’re all together when they book.

I’m a solo traveler, can I book a tour just for me?

Yes, absolutely! Our minimum booking price applies which is $674 per private tour plus taxes and fees. In this case, it would be a custom private tour with just you and the tour guide. You wont be grouped together with other guests. Our solo travelers love this very special rent-a-friend experience. If booking online, you’ll need to select “2.” Please add a note in the comment section to let us know you’re flying solo.

How does this half-day tour differ from the full-day tour?

The half-day version covers the first half of the Road to Hana — the secret turtle beach, waterfall hikes, the bamboo forest, banana bread, and the Keanae area — without continuing on into Hana town itself. It skips stops like Waianapanapa State Park and the black and red sand beaches that are part of the full-day tour.

Is hiking part of this tour?

Yes. Your guide leads you on foot along cliffside trails to reach hidden waterfalls and into a bamboo forest to a secret swimming hole, with an easier paved walking path through the Keanae Arboretum available if you'd rather take a slower pace.

Is this a good option for families with young kids or a shorter visit?

Yes — this tour was built for exactly that. It packs the swimming, hiking, and highlight stops of the Road to Hana into a shorter day, which works well for families with young children or anyone with limited time on Maui.

Do we skip the line at the banana bread stand?

Yes — this tour includes VIP access to a popular local banana bread stop, so you skip the wait that other visitors often face.

Cancellation Policy

Customers will receive a full refund with 48 hours' notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will be processed in the same method as the original payment. Cancellations or inquiries about cancelling must be made by calling. No-shows will be charged the full price.
