Description
Cross the Channel to One of Maui's Best Snorkeling Destinations!
Leave the beaches of West Maui behind and spend the morning exploring the beautiful waters surrounding Lānaʻi, one of Hawaii's premier snorkeling destinations. After boarding from Kāʻanapali Beach, you'll cruise across the scenic channel toward Lānaʻi, where your captain selects the day's snorkel location based on the best ocean conditions, ensuring the clearest water and most enjoyable experience possible.
Once anchored, you'll slip into crystal-clear water to explore coral reefs filled with tropical marine life. Keep an eye out for Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu), colorful reef fish, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, and many other species that call these reefs home. During the crossing, it's not uncommon to encounter spinner or bottlenose dolphins, and during humpback whale season (typically December 15 through May 15), whales are often spotted as they migrate through the channel between Maui and Lānaʻi.
Everything you need for a comfortable morning on the water is provided, including high-quality snorkeling equipment, flotation devices, snacks, drinks, freshwater showers, onboard restrooms, and shaded seating. Whether it's your very first snorkel or you're an experienced ocean explorer, this half-day adventure offers a relaxed, scenic way to experience one of the most beautiful reef systems in Maui County while leaving plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day.

FAQs
Why snorkel around Lānaʻi instead of staying near Maui?
The waters surrounding Lānaʻi are known for their exceptional clarity, healthy coral reefs, and abundant marine life. Because much of the island's coastline is less developed and receives fewer visitors than many Maui snorkel spots, the reefs often feel more secluded and natural. Crossing the channel also gives you the opportunity to experience a completely different side of Hawaii while enjoying spectacular views of both islands.
What marine life might we encounter while snorkeling?
The reefs around Lānaʻi are home to a wide variety of Hawaiian marine life. Common sightings include Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu), colorful reef fish such as butterflyfish, parrotfish, triggerfish, surgeonfish, and wrasses, as well as moray eels, octopus, and spotted eagle rays. During the boat ride, it's also possible to see spinner dolphins or bottlenose dolphins, and from December 15 through May 15, humpback whales are frequently spotted as they migrate through the channel.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but every trip offers a unique opportunity to experience Hawaii's incredible marine ecosystem.
Is this tour suitable for beginner snorkelers?
Yes. This tour welcomes both first-time and experienced snorkelers. The crew provides quality snorkeling equipment, flotation devices, and a safety briefing before entering the water. The captain selects snorkel locations based on the day's ocean conditions, helping provide the calmest and clearest experience possible. If you're new to snorkeling, the crew is happy to answer questions and help you feel comfortable before entering the water.
What if the weather isn't good for Lānaʻi?
Ocean conditions can change throughout the year, and guest safety is always the top priority. Your captain monitors weather, wind, and ocean conditions before and during every trip, selecting the best snorkeling location available for that day. If conditions near Lānaʻi are not suitable, the itinerary may be adjusted to another protected snorkel site that offers safer and more enjoyable conditions.
Can I bring an underwater camera?
Absolutely. Waterproof cameras and action cameras are a great way to capture your snorkeling adventure. If you're bringing a phone, make sure it is in a fully waterproof case and secured with a float or wrist strap before entering the water. The boat ride and ocean conditions can be bumpy at times, so securing your camera helps prevent accidental loss while allowing you to focus on enjoying the incredible marine life below.
The outfitter is not responsible for any lost or damaged electronics or personal items brought on the tour.
