Clear Creek Beginner Rafting Trip Near Denver

Clear Creek is one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in Colorado, and for a great reason. Conveniently located about 30 minutes west of Denver, Clear Creek has a rafting trip option for various ability and experience levels. Our beginner trips are perfect for first-time rafters or families looking for a great introduction to whitewater rafting.

After meeting at the boathouse, you'll meet your guides and gear up before heading to the river!  This trip covers roughly 6 miles of river and offers amazing whitewater rapids, beautiful scenery, and some peaceful floating. You’ll have a blast splashing through Class II-III rapids where we’ll help you develop your paddling skills. Relax as you meander through the historic mining town of Idaho Springs, past the Argo Gold Mine, and Charlie Taylor waterwheel. Keep an eye out for wildlife in the canyons surrounding you as you enjoy your Colorado adventure. This is a fabulous trip for first-timers, families, and large groups with varying ability levels.

What to wear rafting in Colorado?

Avoid cotton clothing, as it tends to get wet and stay wet – not to mention taking valuable warmth from your body’s surface. For rafting, bathing suits and shorts are recommended with comfortable, secure footwear. While not required, we do provide wetsuits, splash jackets, and booties at no additional charge. This equipment isn’t mandatory but it is designed to keep you warm. Towels are best kept in your vehicles and don’t do you much good on the river because there is no way to keep them dry. Your best bet are wool, polypro, fleece, micro fleece, polyester, waterproof jackets, and any other outdoor material that dries fast. Space is limited on the rafts, so limit what you bring to what you can wear. Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are included with all rafting adventures and helmets on all Clear Creek trips. If you have any questions please call us so that you know what to expect and can plan accordingly.

Is there a minimum age required for this trip?

We typically accept participants 6 years or older on beginner trips, if they are accompanied by a legal guardian. You must be 18 years or older to attend a trip on your own.

When does Clear Creek run?

Great question! Check out our guide to the seasonality of Colorado rivers for an overview of when rivers are running, difficulty, locations, and more.
