Rentals for alpine touring skis, boots, skins, and avalanche gear are available at our Silverthorne, CO basecamp.

Location / Where to Meet

Colorado Adventure Guides: Silverthorne Basecamp
Most tours meet at our Silverthorne Basecamp, but your guide will be in touch no later than 48 hours before the start of the trip to discuss adventure details. At that time, an alternative meeting location may be designated. 

Ages & Requirements

  1. Minimum Age: 16 years old
  2. Skiing Ability: Participants should be comfortable skiing advanced blue and black terrain at a ski resort. Experience on ungroomed or off-piste terrain is highly recommended.
  3. Fitness Level: A moderate to high level of physical fitness is required. Backcountry skiing involves uphill travel, variable snow conditions, and extended time on skis, so participants should be prepared for sustained activity.
  4. Equipment: Alpine touring skis with climbing skins, boots, poles, avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe are required. Rentals are available at our Silverthorne, CO basecamp for those who do not have their own gear.

FAQs

What kind of skier would enjoy this adventure?

Skiers must be comfortable in steep blue to black terrain at the ski resort. Students should be able to travel off-trail on ungroomed or unmaintained terrain, and must bring appropriate equipment for traveling on snow. How physically fit do I need to be to participate in this course?

Colorado Adventure Guides priority is keeping our patrons and students safe. Our guides and instructors are trained to recognize potentially hazardous situations in the backcountry; they plan and operate accordingly. Your ability to enjoy the adventure depends on your health and fitness, thus we contact you before selecting a trail.

When and how do I meet up with our instructor?

Your instructor will contact you at least 48 hours prior to your activity start date to finalize details regarding meeting location and time. We depart at 8am.

Do you rent backcountry ski equipment for the tour?

Absolutely! We operate a complete backcountry demo shop out of our basecamp in Silverthorne, CO. We carry full A/T touring setups from Weston or DPS with ATK Bindings, Scarpa boots, and Pomoca skins. Discounts apply when booking a guided tour or course. You can purchase your set up at season end if you really enjoyed the experience!

Can I join a group backcountry skiing tour?

All of our guided ski tours are booked private and custom, and are priced accordingly.

Should we tip our instructor?

Your guide/instructors work hard before, during, and after your course to provide you with a great experience, and while not expected, gratuities are always highly appreciated. If you had a safe, educational, and fun experience, gratuities typically range from 15-20%

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy

Refunds for Guided Trips - Refunds will be honored for cancellations of more than 48 HOURS PRIOR notice to guided adventure start date. An administrative fee of 10% will be assessed for all cancellations.

Refunds for Courses - An administrative fee of 10% will be assessed for all cancellations. Refunds will be honored for cancellations more than 14 DAYS PRIOR to a course or a camp start time. If you need to cancel within the two week period, and we are able to fill your spot, we will refund your payment less a 10% fee. If we cannot fill your spot, you will be charged the full amount. Notice of cancellation more than 14 days in advance will receive a full refund less a 10% administrative fee.

Rescheduling Policy

An administrative fee of 10% will be assessed for all rescheduling. Rescheduling will be honored 48 HOURS PRIOR to guided adventures and 14 DAYS PRIOR to any course or camp start date. If you need to reschedule within the two week period, and we are able to fill your spot, we will reschedule your booking with a 10% fee. If we cannot fill your spot, we will be unable to reschedule our booking.

No-shows will be charged the full price.

All activities are Rain or Shine. In case of operator cancellation due to adverse or unsafe conditions prior to start time, first the operator will attempt to reschedule. If rescheduling is not possible, the client will receive a full refund. Operator, including guides in the field, reserve the right to shorten or reroute activity in the case of unmanageable hazards or inability of guest to complete the objective. Completion of objective-based routes is not guaranteed.
