Description

Step Off the Beach and Into Maui’s Underwater World!

Sometimes the best dives aren't about covering the most distance—they're about slowing down enough to notice what's hiding right in front of you. This guided shore dive takes certified divers directly from a West Maui beach into the reef, where your guide sets an easy pace and helps uncover the marine life tucked between coral, lava rock, and sandy channels.

Keep watch for Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu) cruising across the reef, moray eels peeking from rocky crevices, octopus changing color against the bottom, and tropical reef fish moving through the coral. Your guide will also help you search for some of Maui's easier-to-miss residents, from tiny shrimp and nudibranchs to cleverly camouflaged frogfish and other unusual finds. Every dive is different, and part of the fun is seeing what the reef reveals that day.

With a convenient shore entry and no lengthy surface swim before the dive begins, you can spend more of your time actually exploring underwater. Choose a one-tank dive for an easy addition to your Maui day or add a second tank for more time discovering West Maui's underwater landscape. Morning and afternoon options make it easy to fit diving around the rest of your island plans.

Whether you're newly certified or have hundreds of dives behind you, this experience is less about rushing from point A to point B and more about taking your time, following your guide's eye, and discovering just how much life is hiding on a Maui reef.

FAQs

Are the Maui shore dives 1 or 2 tanks?

You may book them as  one or two tanks. The tour includes 1 tank so there is an extra fee to add a second tank for a second dive at checkout.

You can even decide on the day of your tour if you would like to add a second dive.

How deep are the Maui shore dives?

Between 25 – 45 ft (7.6 to 13.7 m).

How much walking is there for the Maui shore dives?

You’ll need to be able to carry your gear about 30 yards depending on the site. The instructor is there to assist you. Some sites do require a bit more.

Do you have DIN tanks?

Yes, we need 2 days advance notice.

Can I get nitrox? What blend Nitrox do you have? What percentage is the Nitrox?

Yes, we need 1 day advance notice. Nitrox blend is 32%

Would you recommend steel tanks (“100’s”) since I tend to go through my air fast?

It depends on your dimensions (height and weight) if it will be beneficial for you. If you are over 210 lbs we recommend steel tanks. Also known as “100’s”

Can I go to Hana the day after I dive?

Yes, there is no elevation gain to worry about.

Can I drive up to Haleakala (volcano)?

No, wait 18 – 24 hours before ascending to altitude.

Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.

Can I fly after diving?

Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:

  • A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 18 hours suggested.
  • Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 24 hours is suggested.
  • Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.

Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!

I have my own regulator can I just rent the BCD?

Yes; when you make your reservation you can select which add-ons are right for you: you can either rent a Full Set of dive gear or by the piece.

As of 2021 we are providing any gear rental you need for no extra charge.

Do I need my scuba certification card?

Yes, you need to show your scuba certification card at check in in order to participate in our Maui diving excursion. Proof of certification is accepted, for example, if the office has verified you or you have a Dive Check through PADI.

Can I bring my own tanks? Is there a discount if I do?

Yes, you can bring your own tanks. There is no discount as tanks do not cost extra, they are included.

Can I use all of my own equipment?

Yes, and you do need a computer on for boat dives.

Cancellation Policy

72 Hour Cancellation Policy strictly enforced. We run small groups intentionally. 5 divers to 1 guide means every seat matters. A last minute cancellation leaves us with an empty seat and a diver we've already sent elsewhere. When you give us your credit card information to hold a reservation, you are agreeing to the following cancellation terms and conditions:

If the cancellation notification is received more than 72 hours from the start of the tour or class there will be a 20% fee charged.

If the cancellation notification is received less than 72 hours from the start of the tour or class there will be a 100% cancellation fee charged to your credit card.

Cancellations only accepted during business hours: Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 4:30 PM, Sunday 7:30 AM to 3 PM (HST). Messages left on voicemail do not constitute an accepted cancellation.

If you are required to have a doctor's note for a "YES" answer on the medical waiver for any Intro to Scuba Dive or Certification class and you fail to bring that with you or provide it BEFORE the start of the class you WILL NOT be permitted to dive and you WILL NOT receive a refund for the booking. Additionally, if you cannot swim or for any other reason do not complete your dive you will not be given a refund.

Extended Horizons’ cancellation policy supersedes all previous credit card agreements you have with your credit card company. During busy seasons, our 72-hour cancellation policy changes to Two Week and customers will be informed at the time of booking. (Busy seasons: December through April and June through August).
