FAQs

What is the difference between the half-day and full-day Salmon River rafting trip?

A half-day trip lasts about 3.5 - 4.5 hours on the water, covering roughly 11 miles of river. A full-day trip extends to 7–8 hours and typically covers 20+ miles, with a riverside lunch included.

What class of rapids will we encounter?

Whitewater rafting trips on the Salmon River near Riggins feature exciting yet approachable Class II–III rapids, with some Class IV rapids depending on water levels. These are perfect for both beginners and experienced rafters.

Do I need prior rafting experience?

No experience is necessary! Our guides provide a thorough safety briefing and instruction before you hit the water.

What is the best time of year for whitewater rafting the Salmon River?

The rafting season runs from late spring through early fall. High water and bigger rapids occur in late May and June, while July through September offers warmer weather and more family-friendly flows.

What if the weather is bad?

Rafting happens rain or shine! Unless there are extreme conditions (such as severe storms or unsafe water levels), trips will go as scheduled.

Can kids go rafting on the Salmon River?

Yes! Our half-day and full-day trips are family-friendly. Children as young as 7 can join, with the exception of high water conditions.

Can I bring my phone or camera?

We recommend leaving valuables behind. If you bring a phone or camera, make sure it’s in a waterproof case and securely attached to you.

Do I need to know how to swim?

While it’s helpful, it’s not required. Everyone wears a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, and our guides will teach you what to do in case you fall in.

Can I bring alcohol?

Alcohol is not permitted on the river during the trip, but you’re welcome to enjoy a drink after the adventure!

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are highly recommended, especially in peak season (June–August), as trips often fill up in advance.
