What to Bring
- Rain Jacket (even if the weather calls for pure sunshine, that isn’t always accurate and it can change quickly here)
- A variety of clothing layers to adjust to speed of movement and varying weather conditions that will likely occur. Athletic clothing is preferred.
- A hat to protect from the intense Colorado sun
- Sunglasses
- Long-sleeve sun shirt (not required, but definitely recommended for this environment)
- Sunscreen
- Your all-time favorite trail snacks
- 2 liters of water. 1 liter is required, and 2 liters is highly recommended. (We will have a large water jug in the vehicle to top up water bottles at the trailhead.)
- Appropriate footwear: Getting to and from the climbing routes has a wide variety of terrain and exposure to cacti. For this reason, we highly recommend closed-toes shoes/hiking boots, and footwear with quality traction. (flip-flops are not allowed and sandals are highly discouraged)

FAQs
What’s the difference between the half-day and full-day Durango climbing tours?
Our half-day tour lasts around 4 to 4.5 hours and is perfect for individuals or smaller groups who want to try climbing for the first time or squeeze in an adventure with limited time. The full-day experience runs 6–7 hours and gives you more time to climb a variety of routes, relax in nature, and enjoy a more spacious, unrushed day—especially great for larger groups or folks who just want to soak it all in.
Is this tour beginner-friendly?
Yes! This tour is highly customizable to match your comfort level and experience. Whether it’s your very first time climbing or you're already confident on the rock, we’ve got you covered with routes ranging from beginner to advanced. Our guides are supportive, patient, and love helping people push their limits safely and confidently.
What if I'm afraid of heights?
You’re not alone—fear of heights is completely normal! Rock climbing can be a powerful and safe way to work through that fear with the help of certified, encouraging guides. You’ll never be pressured to go higher than you’re comfortable with. For some guests, getting five feet off the ground is the win of the day!
How physically fit do I need to be?
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a general baseline of fitness is helpful. Our routes vary in difficulty and we’ll work with your group’s abilities to create the best experience. You just need to have enough physical fitness to carry a light backpack and walk for up to 45 minutes at altitude, with multiple breaks along the way. If you can go on a light hike and have a willingness to try something new, you’ll do great.
Where does the climbing take place?
All of our climbing locations are within 10 minutes of Durango and sit at an elevation of around 6,600–7,000 feet—perfect for acclimating if you’re just arriving in the area. We’ll choose the crag that best matches your group’s goals and experience.
