Description
Full-Day Guided Knik River Kayaking & SUP Tour near Anchorage
Spend a full day exploring the Knik River Valley, carved by the largest glacier in South Central Alaska. This extended version of your guides' signature paddle covers the same scenic ground as the half-day trip — Jim Lake, the slow-moving "Bayou of Alaska" creek, river delta sand dunes with prime views of Knik Glacier, and the glacier-fed Knik River itself — but at a more unhurried pace, with a catered lunch built into the middle of the day.
The route starts with a paddle across Jim Lake, followed by a short portage to a winding, marshy creek that meanders quietly through the valley. From there, you'll paddle into a river delta framed by silty sand dunes, where Knik Glacier comes into full view in the distance — one of the most photographed moments of the trip. The day closes out on the glacier-fed Knik River itself, floating with the current back toward Reflections Lake as the mountains and braided river channels stretch out around you.
With the extra time on the water, there's more room to slow down, watch for wildlife, and simply take in the valley — river otters, beavers, bald eagles, salmon, ducks, owls, porcupines, moose, bears, and coyotes are all regulars in this stretch of the Mat-Su. A sack lunch from a local bakery, along with snacks and hot and cold drinks, keeps everyone fueled for the full day on the water.

FAQs
Is transportation from Anchorage included?
Transportation is not included in the tour price. Your guides offer a round-trip shuttle from downtown Anchorage for an additional flat fee of $175 per group (1–6 people). The shuttle meets guests at the downtown Anchorage Visitor's Center (the Log Cabin) and is roughly a 45-minute ride each way to the meeting point. Shuttle service is also available from Palmer or Wasilla for $85. Shuttle service must be requested and scheduled in advance.
Do I need previous paddling experience?
No prior experience is needed for these trips. They're designed to welcome beginners, and your guide will cover paddling basics before you head out on the water.
How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?
Online reservations must be made by 5 PM the day before your scheduled tour.
What wildlife might I see on the Knik River?
Your guides paddle through glacier-formed lakes, marshlands, and river systems where river otters, beavers, bald eagles, salmon, ducks, owls, porcupines, moose, bears, and coyotes have all been spotted. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the terrain is prime wildlife habitat.
What is the route for this tour?
The full-day trip starts and ends at Reflections Lake. After check-in, guests are transferred to Jim Lake, paddle across it, and take a short, easy portage to a slow-moving creek. From there the route follows a river delta and sand dunes — offering some of the best photo opportunities of Knik Glacier — before finishing with a float down the Knik River back to Reflections Lake.
How is this different from the half-day tour?
The full-day trip covers the same general route as the half-day tour but at a more relaxed pace, with roughly double the time on the water and a catered sack lunch included.
Are there restrooms along the route?
There is one vault toilet at Reflections Lake. Beyond that, there are no facilities along the route, so guests should plan accordingly.
Can I jump in the river to cool off?
No — the Knik River is glacier-fed and stays very cold, so swimming isn't recommended.
What does lunch include?
A sack lunch catered by a local bakery is provided as part of this trip. Include any allergies or dietary needs in the booking notes in your reservation!
