Description

Full-Day Family Slot Canyon Tour – Guided Canyoneering for Kids 12 & Under

A full day in a Southern Utah slot canyon with your family is the kind of trip that becomes a story you tell for years. The one where your kid rappelled for the first time and didn't want to stop. Where you scrambled through a passage you weren't sure you could fit through. Where everyone—adults included—came out muddy, tired, and completely lit up.

The Full-Day Family Slot Canyon Tour takes everything that makes the half-day special and expands it—more canyon, more rappels, more time deep in terrain that feels genuinely remote and spectacular. It's designed specifically for families with children 12 and under, with the same foundation of challenge by choice, child-led exploration, and expert family-focused guiding. Your guide selects the canyon based on your family's ages, energy, and goals, and adapts the pace throughout the day so every member of the group—from the boldest kid to the more cautious one—has a great experience.

No prior experience is needed for anyone. Guides handle all the technical systems and instruction from start to finish. What the full day does require is stamina—8 hours is a meaningful commitment for younger kids, and the best families for this tour are those who are genuinely excited about a big day out together. If you're not sure whether your kids are ready for the full day, the half-day is an excellent starting point and a natural lead-in for a future full-day trip.

All family tours are private. Your group won't share the canyon with other guests, and the guide's focus is entirely on your family from first rappel to last.

FAQs

What age is this designed for?

This tour is specifically designed for families with at least one child between 5 and 12 years old. The pace, canyon selection, and guide approach are all tailored to make the experience developmentally appropriate and genuinely fun for kids in that range.

Does my child need to know how to rappell?

No prior experience is needed for anyone in the group. Guides teach everything from scratch in a supportive, age-appropriate way.

Will we get wet?

Possibly — some canyons have shallow pools depending on conditions and time of year. Guides factor this into their canyon selection. It's worth mentioning any concerns about water or cold to staff when booking.

Is this canyoneering tour private?

Yes, your group will not be combined with other guests, and the guide's full attention is on your family throughout the day.

What is the difference between that half-day and full-day family canyoneering tour?

The half-day covers a shorter, more focused canyon with fewer rappels and a lighter time commitment — ideal for younger kids or families working around other plans. The full-day goes deeper, with more canyon, more features, and a bigger sense of backcountry adventure. Both are excellent; the right choice depends on your kids' ages, stamina, and appetite for adventure.

Is the full day realistic for young kids?

It depends on your kids. Eight hours is a real commitment, and the best candidates for the full-day family tour are kids who are enthusiastic about physical adventure, comfortable being outdoors for long stretches, and genuinely excited about the experience. Kids who tire easily or are more hesitant adventurers may have a better time on the half-day. If you're unsure, staff are happy to talk through what's right for your group.

How far in advance should I book?

Early reservations are advised. Summer dates fill 30–45 days in advance. Book early to secure your preferred date and start time.

Cancellation Policy

Full payment is due at the time of booking. Cancellations more than 3 days in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 72 hours of trip start time are non-refundable. Weather conditions do not permit clients to cancel trips. If your Zion Adventures® guide determines conditions make the event unsafe, we will reschedule or make every effort to provide a comparable experience; if not possible, all purchases will be refunded in full.
