Full-Day Guided Snowshoe & Wildlife Tour in Grand Teton National Park

Experience the wild beauty of winter in Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge on this full-day adventure that blends active exploration with wildlife viewing. Led by one of our expert naturalist guides, you’ll spend the morning snowshoeing through pristine alpine meadows and forests, followed by an afternoon wildlife safari through the region’s most iconic winter habitats.
Your day begins in Jackson, where you’ll meet your guide and gear up for a half-day snowshoe excursion. As you travel across peaceful snow-covered landscapes, your guide will share insights about the park’s winter ecology, geology, and animal tracking. No previous snowshoeing experience is required—this outing is perfect for beginners and seasoned adventurers alike.
After a refreshing morning in the backcountry, you’ll warm up and refuel over a hearty lunch at Dornan’s, a beloved local spot with sweeping mountain views. The afternoon brings a comfortable change of pace as you settle into our custom safari-style vehicle for a wildlife tour through Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge. Keep your camera ready—you may spot elk, moose, bighorn sheep, foxes, coyotes, eagles, or trumpeter swans moving through the snowy landscape.
Throughout the day, your guide will tailor the experience to your interests and energy level, ensuring a balance of adventure, learning, and relaxation. This immersive winter experience is the perfect way to connect with the landscape and wildlife that make Jackson Hole so extraordinary.

Winter Snowshoeing in Grand Teton National Park

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Jackson Hole Eco Tour Adventures

FAQs

Can I choose the energy level of the snowshoeing?

Choose your ideal Energy Level! Our group programs offer a leisurely pace; if you are interested in a faster pace level, we offer private programs that can cater to any activity level.

  • Leisure: This type of tour will focus on taking advantage of teaching moments to learn about winter ecology and interpret animal signs. We’ll have plenty of time to stop and take photos, and we’ll be moving at a pace where you can easily hold a conversation with friends.
  • Moderate: Our moderate tours will move at a slightly faster pace, focusing on covering a little more ground so that we can experience more of the backcountry.
  • Aerobic: We offer the aerobic energy level for any of our tours that are booked privately. Aerobic-style tours are great for our guests who are in top physical condition and don’t mind breaking a sweat. We’ll focus these tours on covering as much ground as possible and experiencing the depths of the backcountry.

Can we see wildlife during the tour?

Yes — Grand Teton National Park is home to elk, moose, bison, foxes, coyotes, eagles, and more. While sightings are never guaranteed, your guide is skilled at spotting tracks, signs, and animals moving through the snow.

Will we enter Grand Teton National Park?

Yes — all snowshoe tours take place within Grand Teton National Park under a National Park Service permit.

How physically demanding is the snowshoe tour?

The group tour moves at a leisurely, comfortable conversational pace with frequent stops. Private tours can be any pace - those who are looking for more exercise can opt for a moderate and aerobic tours cover more ground and involve more uphill travel. No prior snowshoeing experience is needed for either.

Are restrooms available along the route?

There are restrooms at the trailhead, but not along the route. Please plan to use facilities before departure.

Can we bring our own snacks or drinks?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring personal snacks or beverages, though we provide plenty of refreshments and hot drinks.
