Set out for a full-day kayaking adventure that begins beneath the towering Hoover Dam and winds 12 miles down the Colorado River through the dramatic cliffs of Black Canyon. You’ll meet your guide at the Hoover Dam Lodge for a scenic drive to the base of the dam before launching from this remarkable engineering landmark. From the water, the dam’s scale is breathtaking — a rare chance to see it from a completely different perspective.
As you paddle downstream, your guide will share stories about the canyon’s geology, wildlife, and human history. The route features several points of interest, including secluded beaches, the historic Fish Hatchery, and natural hot springs tucked into the desert cliffs. You’ll also pass by Falcon and Sauna Caves, two hidden alcoves that showcase the canyon’s unique volcanic formations and geothermal activity.
A highlight of the day is Emerald Cove, a glowing grotto where sunlight filters through clear green water — a must-see stop for photos and a chance to rest your paddle. What is the usual water temperature of the Lake Mead?

Water temperatures can range from the low 50s in the winter to the low 80s during the summer months. Wind can sometimes turn this glassy water into 4- to 6-foot swells with very choppy conditions.

Do I need to have paddling skills to join?

No prior kayaking experience is required. This tour is designed for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike. Your professional guide will provide a thorough safety briefing and paddling instruction before launching, and the calm river conditions make it easy to learn as you go.

Can we swim in the river?

Yes! There are few lovely spots in the river for you to take a swim.

Are we able to encounter wildlife along the way?

Yes! You will probably get a chance to see wildlife around the river ecosystem, such as turtles, birds, deer, fish, etc.

What if the weather gets bad?

We’ll always keep you informed on the weather in the event we need to cancel due to the conditions.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel a tour, you must notify River Dogz at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled shuttle pick-up time or tour meet-up time (if providing your own transportation). This notification should be sent by replying to your confirmation email with a cancellation request.
  1. Standard Tours: If cancelled 48 hours in advance, the tour amount will be refunded, less a $40 per person, per tour fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the tour start time are non-refundable.
  2. Custom, Group (10+ participants), and Promotional Tours: These bookings are non-refundable once confirmed.
  3. Hoover Dam Tour: A cancellation or rescheduling fee of $65 applies to our Hoover Dam Tour due to non-refundable and non-changeable permit purchases with the park service.
River Dogz strives to accommodate guests by offering rescheduling options or future credit when possible. These courtesies are at the discretion of management and may incur additional fees.
