Folly Beach Surfing Lessons
Catch your first wave — or sharpen the ones you already know — with a private or small-group surf lesson on Folly Beach. Each session is customized to your age and experience level, so whether you've never touched a board or you're working on technique, your guides tailor the coaching to you.
Sessions start with about 15 minutes on the beach to check conditions and go over technique before heading into the water for the rest of the two hours. It's a relaxed, hands-on way to build real surfing skills with a certified local instructor by your side.

Is it possible to learn to surf after one lesson?
Surfing takes time to develop, and progress depends on your age, health, and prior comfort in the ocean. During a 2-hour session, your guides aim to give you the tools to keep paddling out on your own, and booking additional lessons — including 5-session packages — is encouraged for continued progress.
What happens if it rains during my lesson?
Rain alone won't cancel a session — thunderstorms will. If rain or storms are in the forecast, your guides will try to notify you by email the evening before, sometimes followed by a morning-of update. If your lesson is cancelled for weather, it will be rescheduled for another day.
Can I book a private lesson, or do I need a group?
Both are available. Lessons are priced by group size, from a 1-on-1 private session up to a group of 4; larger groups of 5 or more can be arranged directly with your guides.
Is this good for someone with no surfing experience?
Yes — sessions are customized to your age and experience level, so first-timers and more experienced surfers are both welcome.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes — online booking is available for a fixed daily time slot; other times or custom packages can be arranged directly with your guides.
What if my child is younger than 6?
Your guides have taught many 4- and 5-year-olds over the years with great success. Younger kids often haven't yet developed apprehension about trying something new, which can help them build a healthy respect for the ocean early on. Your guides trust that you know your child best when deciding if they're ready.
Are the instructors certified?
Yes. All instructors are certified lifeguards with CPR and first aid training.
Do participants need to know how to swim?
Yes — all participants must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water to take part.
Who will I be learning from?
Lessons are led by a Charleston-area native with over 35 years of surfing experience, a BS in Education from the College of Charleston, and a background teaching science, along with certifications as a personal trainer and yoga instructor.
Cancellation Policy
Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
