Description

Half-Day Private Mountain Biking in Durango with Lunch - Private Tour

Craving a full-day mountain bike adventure custom-tailored to your group’s skills and goals? Our Extended Private Tour gives you more time on the trail, more flexibility in pace and terrain, and a full picnic lunch to enjoy out in nature.
Whether you’re new to mountain biking or a seasoned rider looking to hit iconic Durango loops, your guide will select the perfect route just for your group. We’ll plan the day based on your preferences—teaching technical skills, tackling more mileage, or simply cruising scenic trails at a relaxed pace. With extra time built in, you can savor views, linger at overlooks, and enjoy one of the best trail lunches in town.
Your guide will select the best mix of trails based on the group’s overall ability level, drawing from local favorites. We have access to a variety of trail systems, including The Aqueduct Trail system in Mancos for true beginners, or Horse Gulch, Twin Buttes, Overend Mountain Park, and Dalla Mountain Park for more seasoned riders. All ride areas sit between 6,600–7,400 feet in elevation, which makes this a great adventure earlier in your trip before heading into Durango’s high alpine zones.
  1. Aqueduct Trail System (Mancos): Smooth, wide trails with gentle climbs and mellow descents—perfect for true beginners or families. Scenic views and low traffic make it an ideal intro to mountain biking.
  2. Horse Gulch: A local favorite with something for everyone, from beginner-friendly loops to technical climbs and flowy descents. It’s one of the most expansive and accessible trail networks in Durango.
  3. Overend Mountain Park (Test Tracks): Tight singletrack, punchy climbs, and short-but-sweet descents. Great for intermediate riders who want a quick ride close to town with plenty of variety.
  4. Twin Buttes: A mix of longer climbs and fast descents with big views and well-built trail features. Best suited for intermediate to advanced riders who want to earn their turns.
  5. Dalla Mountain Park: Technical, rocky terrain with sandstone features and steep sections that challenge even experienced riders. A must-ride for advanced mountain bikers looking to test their skills.
Along the way, you’ll stop for a picnic lunch featuring fresh sandwiches from Durango Natural Foods Co-op (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available), plus a variety of snacks.
This ride is ideal for riders with some mountain biking experience, but it’s still approachable for confident beginners who are up for a longer day in the saddle. Your WFR-certified guide will handle all logistics—from basic bike adjustments to trail selection—so you can focus on having a great time with your group. Private tours offer the space to move at exactly your group’s pace. It’s an ideal choice for families, friend groups, or anyone wanting a curated and relaxed mountain bike experience.

Location / Where to Meet

We'll provide transportation to and from your lodging (within 5 miles of Durango’s city center). If you are staying farther outside of town, we will establish a spot to meet and transport you from there, or we can meet at 2nd Ave Sports (640 E 2nd Ave, Durango, CO 81301), where we our rent bikes from.
As this is a group tour, please recognize your guide will be making multiple stops to pick up and drop off other guests. Please be on time with your set pick-up time to avoid delaying the entire tour.

Ages & Requirements

We have access to a variety of trail options, from beginner-friendly to advanced, and can tailor the tour to varying levels of experience in mountain biking. We do recommend having some mountain biking experience. All guests must be able to carry 2 liters of water and bike for the full duration of the tour.
There is no minimum age for private tours; we recommend reserving a private tour if your children are under 5 years old or if anyone in your party requires a slower pace. These can be adjusted to suit your family's pace and needs. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

What’s Included

  1. Use of our Osprey Daylite Plus backpacks (20L volume)
  2. Professional instruction on mountain biking technique and form.

  5. Transportation to and from your lodging (within 5 miles of Durango’s city center) or an established meeting location
  6. Pick-up and drop-off of your rental bike and helmet from 2nd Ave Sports.

FAQs

Do I need to have good physical fitness to do this tour?

Not necessarily! This tour can be adjusted to match a wide range of fitness levels. Your guide will do their best to create a comfortable experience that aligns with your needs and goals, whether you're an experienced rider or just getting back on a bike.

That said, it’s important that you’re able to bike at a relaxed pace while carrying a light daypack, with breaks along the way. To help us prepare the best possible experience—and ensure everyone’s safety—please fill out the health profile section of your registration form completely and accurately. The more we know, the better we can tailor the ride to fit you.

How can we rent bikes?

Feel free to bring your own bike if you have it with you, otherwise we partner with 2nd Avenue Sports for all of our rental needs at a very reasonable price (not included in the tour price). They will have the right bike adjusted to your height and weight ahead of time, and Meraki will pick up the bikes and helmets before the tour. You'll be able to add the bike to your booking at checkout.

Who are the guides?

All of our guides are longtime bicyclists, who can help adjust your bike to be more comfortable or fix a flat tire on the fly. They are trained in wilderness medicine (WFR certified) and have your safety as their number one priority from start to finish, with the size of your smile as a close second!

How does tipping work with these tours?

Guides put a lot of work into preparing your tour, running it safely, and doing their best to make your smile large and send you home with great memories; and then clean and store gear. Gratuity is not expected, but it is greatly appreciated. If you thought your guide did a great job keeping you safe, teaching you about the area and accommodating your needs, gratuities usually range between 15-20% of the tour price.

What happens if it's raining?

Tours will operate rain or shine, as long as our guides deem the conditions are safe.

What's the difference between a private tour and a mixed group tour?

Private Tour vs. Mixed Group Tour

  • Private Tours are tailored specifically to your group’s interests, fitness level, and pace. Your guide can make real-time adjustments to the route, and there’s no need to accommodate other groups’ pickup or drop-off locations. It’s a personalized, seamless experience from start to finish—perfect for families, special occasions, or anyone wanting a custom adventure.
  • Mixed Group Tours are a shared experience with other adventurers. They’re a great way to meet like-minded people and are more budget-friendly. However, the itinerary and pace are set to suit the whole group.

We love offering both options, but we generally recommend Private Tours for the best flexibility and overall experience.

What is the guest-guide ratio?

Meraki’s 6:1 Guest to Guide ratio allows us to provide proper care and attention to each guest and support them in pushing their unique limits. For those looking for an exceptionally chill experience it also allows us to lavish in good stories and top food recommendations.

Are your guides certified?

All Meraki guides have an active Wilderness First Responder medical certification. This 80-hour wilderness medical course covers a wide variety of situations and issues that could happen in the outdoors and how to manage them professionally. Our rock climbing guides are also certified by the Professional Climbing Guides Institute. All Meraki guides carry a comprehensive first aid kit, as well as a Garmin inReach satellite communication device for when cell service is spotty.

Do you provide food or snacks?

The essential fuel of a good adventure! We pride ourselves on having good (mostly organic) food and good snacks on our trips. Any tour that is over 3 hours in length will have a mostly organic with local ingredients, gourmet sandwich from our Durango Natural Foods Co-op. We care about the quality of nutrition that goes into our bodies, and we share that same standard for our guests. Be sure to check the inclusions and exclusions above for what's included in your tour.

Can I join a tour as a solo guest?

Yes! Solo travelers are always welcome. You can join one of our mixed group tours, which are a fun and social way to experience the outdoors with other like-minded adventurers.

Prefer a more personalized experience? You can also book a private tour as a solo guest, with one-on-one attention from your guide. Either way, we’re happy to accommodate and help you make the most of your time outside!
