Hit the Open Road in a Camper Van — One-Way Trips Available from LA

Escape Camper Vans makes it easy to trade four walls for the open road. Pick up your camper van at our Inglewood location — just 2.5 miles from LAX — and go wherever the road takes you. One-way rentals are available, meaning you can pick up in Los Angeles and drop off at any other Escape location across the US without backtracking.

From LA you're perfectly positioned for some of the most iconic road trips in the country. Head north up the Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu, Santa Barbara, and Big Sur. Whatever your route, our fully equipped campervans give you everything you need to eat, sleep, and explore in comfort — no hotel reservations, no restaurant bills, no fixed itinerary.

Every van in our fleet has its own name and one-of-a-kind exterior artwork, turning heads everywhere you go.

Daily rentals available. Multi-day and extended rentals welcome. One-way rentals between any Escape location are available with no need to return the van to LA. Extensions can be made anytime, subject to availability.

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Escape Campervan Rentals - Los Angeles

FAQs

What is a one-way rental and how does it work?

Escape offers one-way rentals between any of their US locations. Pick up in Los Angeles and drop off in San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Portland, New York, or any other Escape location without returning the van to LA. A one-way drop fee applies — confirm the exact fee for your route at booking.

What is included with my campervan rental?

Everything you need except clothing and personal items. Included in the rental price are fresh linens, a comforter and pillows for two, a full set of kitchen utensils, folding chairs, a folding shade canopy, a camp shower, and a gas cooking stove. Voyager class vans come with a pull-out kitchen unit; Caravan class vans come with a folding picnic table.

Can I make changes to my trip after booking?

Yes. You can add or remove options anytime before the start of your trip. Changes to trip start and end dates after the cancellation period (3 days before the trip start) may not qualify for a full refund. Extensions can be made anytime, subject to availability.

How do tolls work?

A toll pass is available for rentals on the West Coast, covering Pacific and Mountain time zones. The pass covers all bridge and tunnel tolls — drive through FastTrack lanes and Escape handles the charges. Note that fast lanes and toll roads are not covered, only bridges and tunnels. In Central and Eastern time zones, tolls are billed directly to the renter with a 10% processing fee added, even if your trip originated on the West Coast with a toll pass selected.

How do I get to the LA pickup location from LAX?

The Inglewood location is just 2.5 miles from LAX. Take a rideshare or taxi directly from the terminal. Public transit is also available via the LAX City Bus Center shuttle connecting to local Metro bus routes. Personal vehicle parking is not available at the pickup location — use way.com to find nearby parking if needed.

Is there a bathroom in the camper van?

The vans do not have a built-in toilet or shower. Public restrooms are available at all parks, campgrounds, and road stops including gas stations and restaurants. For showering, a camp shower is included with every rental. Campgrounds and truck stops (look for Pilot or Love's locations outside major cities) often have shower facilities available for a fee. In cities, one-time access to a YMCA, community center, or public pool is a practical option. Most travelers find the flexibility and savings of a camper van versus a full RV far outweigh the trade-off.

Is there a mileage limit?

There is no mileage cap — you pay per mile driven at a rate of $0.30 to $0.40 per mile. Factor this into your budget when planning your route, especially for longer one-way journeys.

What is the minimum driver age?

Drivers must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license. A young driver surcharge may apply for drivers under 25. All drivers must be listed at the time of booking.

Can multiple people share the driving?

Yes. Additional drivers can be added at booking. All drivers must meet the minimum age requirement and hold a valid driver's license.

Can I take the van off-road?

Standard camper van models are designed for paved roads. The Jeep Camper (4x4) is built for more rugged terrain, but off-road driving is at the renter's own risk and is not covered by any of Escape's insurance options.

What happens if the van breaks down?

Escape Camper Vans provides customer support throughout your trip. Contact Escape directly using the number provided at pickup. In the event of a significant mechanical issue, Escape has arranged hotel accommodations and covered repair costs for affected renters.

What is the fuel policy?

All vans run on regular unleaded gasoline. The van is provided with a full tank and must be returned full. If returned without a full tank, a refueling fee will be charged.

Are campsites included?

No. Campsite and parking fees are the responsibility of the renter. Great options near LA include Malibu Creek State Park (30 minutes from pickup), Crystal Lake Campground in the San Gabriel Mountains (1 hour), and Dockweiler State Beach (30 minutes from pickup).

What road trips are most popular from LA?

Top routes from LA include the Pacific Coast Highway north to San Francisco, Joshua Tree and the Mojave Desert, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, and full one-way trips to Seattle or Denver via multiple national parks.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel for a full refund during the cancellation period, which is up to 3 days before the start of your trip — or within 24 hours of booking if you booked just a day or two in advance. After the cancellation period, you'll receive a 30% refund on unused trip days, or full credit for a future rental (credit is transferable).
