Hit the Road in a Camper Van — One-Way Trips Available from Denver

Denver is the Mile-High City for a reason — and once you leave it, the elevation only gets more dramatic. The Front Range of the Rockies rises right outside the city, with Rocky Mountain National Park just 90 minutes north and a string of world-class ski towns within a few hours in any direction. A camper van rental from Denver puts all of Colorado's extraordinary terrain within reach, with the flexibility to sleep where you stop and cook your own meals wherever you park.

Pick up your van near Denver International Airport and go. Rocky Mountain National Park, the Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and all four of Colorado's national parks are accessible on a single road trip loop. Head southwest into Utah — Moab and Arches National Park are about five to six hours away. Push north to Wyoming and Grand Teton. One-way rentals are available — pick up in Denver and drop off in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Seattle, or any other U.S. location.

At 25–30 miles per gallon on the highway, the compact minivan-based fleet is practical for the long mountain drives that define a Colorado road trip.

What to Bring

  • Layered clothing — Colorado elevations create dramatic temperature swings between day and night, even in summer
  • Personal toiletries
  • Food and snacks — stock up before departing. Options become limited once you're in the mountains.
  • Reusable water bottles — altitude increases dehydration; drink more water than usual
  • Propane canisters for the stove — available at nearby stores; not included
  • Any personal outdoor gear (hiking poles, bike gear, ski/snowboard equipment)
  • Snow chains if traveling over mountain passes in winter or spring
  • A lighter or matches for the stove

Tip: High altitude affects cooking times and some appliances. Be aware that boiling water and cooking on the stove will take longer at elevation than at sea level.

FAQs

What type of vans are in the fleet?

The campervans are minivans — Dodge Grand Caravans, Chrysler Pacificas, or similar models — converted with a sleeping cabin installation. They seat four and sleep two adults comfortably (or up to 5 with a rooftop sleeper). The vans do not have built-in plumbing — there is no toilet or shower inside. A portable solar camp shower and external kitchen setup are included.

Is there a minimum rental period?

Yes. The minimum varies by season — typically 3 days in winter and 5 days in summer. Last-minute short-term rentals may be possible based on availability; contact the team directly.

Can I do a one-way rental?

Yes. One-way rentals are available between all U.S. locations. A one-way drop fee applies; confirm your route's fee at booking.

Can I take the van to Canada?

Yes, all vans can travel to Canada at no extra charge. Mexico travel requires a specific approved van and special insurance arranged in advance.

Can I go off-road?

No. Off-road driving is prohibited and not covered by any insurance option. All vans have low clearance and front-wheel drive.

What happens if I have a mechanical issue on the road?

24/7 roadside assistance is included. Contact the support team via the number provided with your reservation — support is managed via SMS text.

What are the best road trips from Denver?

Colorado's four national parks are an excellent starting loop — Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Rocky Mountain National Park cover stunning and very different terrain. For pure mountain scenery, the Rocky Mountain Loop through Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park is a classic. Moab and Arches National Park in Utah are about 5–6 hours southwest. Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs are 2 hours south and make a great shorter trip. Yellowstone and Grand Teton are 7–8 hours north but well worth the drive.

What campgrounds are near Denver?

Cherry Creek State Park (30 minutes from the city) offers hookup sites and a large reservoir. Golden Gate Canyon State Park (about 1 hour west) provides alpine forest camping at elevation. Estes Park Campground at East Portal (90 minutes north) is an excellent base for Rocky Mountain National Park. For national park camping, reserve as far in advance as possible — Rocky Mountain National Park in particular requires timed entry permits in summer.

How far is the pickup location from Denver International Airport?

The hub is approximately 20–30 minutes from DEN by rideshare.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, especially for summer travel in Colorado (June–September). National park campsites also need to be reserved well in advance during peak season.

What's the best time of year to visit from Denver?

Late spring through early fall (May–October) is prime time for Colorado's national parks and high country hiking. Summer offers access to all park roads and trails. Fall brings brilliant aspen foliage in September and October. Winter is spectacular but requires snow chain capability and cold-weather preparation — note that some mountain roads close seasonally.
