Description
Electric Bike Rental — New Buffalo, Michigan
New Buffalo sits at the heart of Harbor Country — Southwest Michigan's beloved stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline just 90 minutes from Chicago — and a Pedego cruiser rental is the most fun way to experience it. From the shop on Whittaker Street, the Lake Michigan beach is minutes away, the boardwalk and lakefront park are a quick cruise down the road, and the village streets of New Buffalo, Union Pier, Harbert, and Sawyer are all accessible along the scenic Red Arrow Highway corridor.
The cruiser-style Pedego is built for exactly this kind of riding: comfortable, upright, and effortless on flat coastal terrain, with a throttle for extra ease and a pedal-assist system you can dial to any level. Rent for a half day or a full day and let staff map out a route tailored to your interests — whether that's the beach, the local restaurants and shops, the regional wine trail, or just the pleasure of riding along the Lake Michigan shoreline at sunset.
Duration
Choose your duration at checkout — half day (3 hours) or full day (7 hours) — and staff will customize route recommendations to make the most of your time.
All bikes must be returned to the shop by closing time.

FAQs
Where can I ride from the shop?
The shop is steps from the Lake Michigan shoreline in New Buffalo. Most riders head to the beach and New Buffalo Lakefront Park first, then cruise along the boardwalk and the Red Arrow Highway corridor connecting New Buffalo to the neighboring Harbor Country villages of Michiana, Grand Beach, Union Pier, Harbert, Sawyer, and Three Oaks. The flat terrain makes it easy to cover 15–20 miles (24–32 km) comfortably. Staff will map out the best route for your duration and what you want to see.
Is the area flat?
Yes — New Buffalo and the Harbor Country shoreline are predominantly flat, making this some of the most accessible cycling terrain in the Midwest. The Pedego's pedal-assist handles the few gentle gradients with ease.
Are e-bikes allowed on the local paths and roads?
Yes — Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are permitted on Michigan roads and paved paths where regular bicycles are allowed. Staff will walk you through the recommended route before you head out.
Can I add a child trailer to my rental?
Yes — the Burley Bee Child Trailer is available as a separate rental. See the Burley Bee listing for full details.
What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?
Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle that propels the bike without pedaling. In Harbor Country's mostly flat coastal terrain, the result is effortless cruising along the Lake Michigan shoreline, through charming village streets, and out to beaches and local stops at a pace that's entirely yours to set.
How far can I go on a single charge?
Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. Harbor Country's flat terrain is easy on the battery — riders typically cover 15–20 miles (24–32 km) on the self-guided rental routes with plenty of charge to spare.
Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?
You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. Staff will walk you through a thorough orientation on the controls, pedal-assist levels, and throttle before you head out.
Are helmets required?
Michigan state law does not require helmets for adult Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike riders. Helmets are strongly recommended and available at the shop.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Not at all. New Buffalo and the Harbor Country shoreline are predominantly flat, making the riding accessible and comfortable for all fitness levels regardless of e-bike experience.
What is the weather policy?
Rentals and tours go forward in all but severe weather. Southwest Michigan summers are warm and beautiful, but Lake Michigan can bring wind and weather changes — a light layer is always a good idea. Contact the shop directly if severe weather is forecast on your day.
What happens if I get a flat tire or the bike has a mechanical issue?
Contact the shop directly. Lock bikes securely whenever you stop along the route.
Do I need to book in advance?
Booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially on weekends and during peak season (June through September). Harbor Country is a popular Chicago-area getaway and availability fills up quickly on summer weekends. The shop is open Thursday through Sunday; closed Monday through Wednesday.
What time does the shop open and close?
Thursday–Friday 10:00 AM–4:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM–4:00 PM; Sunday 11:00 AM–3:00 PM. Closed Monday–Wednesday. All bikes must be returned by closing time.
