Description
Standard E-Bike Rental — Explore Poipu & Kauai's South Shore with Hourly, Daily, & Weekly Rentals
Kauai's south shore is made for electric bikes. The rolling roads between Poipu's beaches, the grades along Lawaʻi Road to Spouting Horn, the long stretch east to Shipwreck Beach and the Mahaulepu cliffs — every one of these becomes effortless on a Pedego, leaving you free to look around, stop whenever you want, and experience the island the way residents have been experiencing it for years. Multiple reviewers call it the most fun activity of their entire Kauai trip.
The shop is inside the Poipu Kai Resort on Poipu Road, minutes from Poipu Beach, the Koloa Heritage Trail, and Old Koloa Town. Staff know every corner of the south shore and will send you off with a route recommendation matched to exactly how long you have and what you want to see.

FAQs
Where can I ride from the shop?
The shop is in the heart of Kauai's south shore, giving you direct access to several excellent routes:
Poipu Beach to Spouting Horn (4 miles / 6.4 km round trip): The most popular short ride — head west along Poipu Road and Lawaʻi Road to the Spouting Horn blowhole, one of Kauai's most iconic natural landmarks. The blowhole shoots water up to 50 feet in the air when swells push through the lava tube below. Poipu Beach — with its resident sea turtles and snorkeling — is minutes from the shop in the other direction.
Koloa Heritage Trail (10 miles / 16 km loop): A self-guided loop connecting 14 historic and cultural sites across the south shore — including Spouting Horn Park, the site of Hawaii's first sugar mill in Old Koloa Town, plantation-era landmarks, ancient Hawaiian heiau (temples), and several beach access points. Each stop is marked with descriptive plaques. A half-day rental covers this comfortably with stops.
Shipwreck Beach and the coastal road: Follow the road east from Poipu to Shipwreck Beach — a dramatic cove at the base of the cliffs below the Grand Hyatt, famous for its bodysurfers and cliff jumpers. The coastal road continues past Poipu Golf Course to additional viewpoints and the trailhead for the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail (a hiking trail along the cliffs, best explored on foot after locking up your bike).
Old Koloa Town (about 1.5 miles / 2.4 km inland): The historic heart of Kauai's south shore — the site of Hawaii's first prosperous sugar mill, with a charming main street of local shops, restaurants, and the Sugar Monument commemorating the plantation era.
Is the terrain hilly?
Gently rolling — Kauai's south shore has real gradients but nothing severe. On the Standard E-Bike, the hills disappear entirely. Multiple reviewers describe arriving at the Spouting Horn and Shipwreck Beach without effort and returning relaxed rather than tired.
How does charging work for multi-day rentals?
A charger is included with multi-day rentals. Plug it into any standard outlet at your accommodation each evening — a full charge takes approximately 4–6 hours. All major Poipu resort properties have standard US outlets.
What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?
Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want. Most models also have a throttle. On Kauai's rolling south shore roads, that assistance makes the hills between Poipu's beaches effortless — so you can stop, explore, and take in every view without worrying about the ride back.
How far can I go on a single charge?
Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Koloa Heritage Trail loop is approximately 10 miles (16 km); the Spouting Horn to Shipwreck Beach coastal route is about 10.7 miles (17.2 km) one way. A full day of south shore exploring is well within range on a single charge.
Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?
You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. Staff will fit your bike and walk you through the controls before you head out. Reviewers consistently describe the orientation as patient, thorough, and friendly.
Are helmets required?
Hawaii state law requires riders under 16 to wear a helmet. Helmets are included with every rental and are strongly recommended for all riders.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Kauai's south shore roads are gently rolling — not flat like some coastal locations. The e-bike's pedal-assist makes the hills very manageable for all fitness levels. For the regular pedal bike rental, a basic level of cycling fitness is recommended given the rolling terrain.
What is the weather policy?
Kauai's south shore is the sunniest part of the island and has excellent weather year-round. Rentals go forward in all but severe weather. Contact the shop if unusual conditions are forecast.
Is parking available at the shop?
Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak season (December through April and June through August). The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM; closed Monday.
Are sea turtles guaranteed at Poipu Beach?
Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) are regularly seen resting on the beach at Poipu Beach Park — it's one of the best spots in Hawaii to see them. They are a protected species; you must remain at least 10 feet (3 m) away and never touch or disturb them. The shop staff can tell you the best time of day for turtle sightings on your visit.
Is reef-safe sunscreen required?
Hawaii law prohibits the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate, which damage coral reefs. Reef-safe sunscreen is strongly recommended and widely available in Koloa and Poipu shops. Better yet, wear a sun shirt — the south shore sun is intense year-round.
