FAQs
What should I expect on the Don Chencho waterfall tour?
Expect a full day of authentic island adventure. You’ll travel into Puerto Rico’s central mountain region, stop at a lookout point with sweeping countryside views, and visit a local bakery for a taste of traditional pastries. Then you’ll hike through a private forest trail to a secluded waterfall and natural swimming pool — no tourist crowds here. After swimming, relaxing, and (optionally) cliff jumping, the day wraps up with a stop at a local restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious Puerto Rican meal (not included in the tour price).
What should you bring on the hike?
This is always a great question. You should bring any type of water shoes, sneakers, hiking sandals, hiking boots etc. Your feet will get wet on the hike. Bathing suits are recommended underneath your clothes. Clothes should be attire that you would wear to a gym. Extra pair of socks and towels, for during and after the tour. All of your items that you bring with you that are personal, can be left in the vehicle so you have your arms free to help you on the hike.
How difficult is the Don Chencho Waterfall hike?
This hike follows a well-defined forest trail with some gentle ups and downs. It’s considered beginner-friendly and is a great option for first-time hikers or families with older kids. Expect moderate inclines and some uneven terrain, but nothing extreme—just enough to make it feel like a real adventure.
Can I cliff jump at the waterfall?
Yes — there’s an opportunity for safe cliff jumping at the natural swimming pool below the waterfall. Jumping is always optional, and your guide will explain where it’s safe to do so and provide instructions before anyone takes the plunge.
How long is the hike to the waterfall?
The walk to the waterfall is relatively short, usually taking about 20–30 minutes each way, depending on the group’s pace. It’s a scenic route through private forested land in Puerto Rico’s central mountains.
Are life jackets provided?
Yes. Life jackets are available upon request—just let the team know how many you’ll need when booking.
Can non-swimmers participate?
Yes, non-swimmers can still enjoy the hike and waterfall views. Life jackets are available, and swimming or cliff jumping is optional.
