Description

Pedal with a Boost, Hike to the Summit & See Waikīkī from Above!

Let a pedal-assist e-bike carry you up the coastal hills as the morning sun lights up Diamond Head. Starting in Waikiki, you'll roll through Kapi'olani Park to learn its history, stop at the WWI Natatorium War Memorial where Duke Kahanamoku once trained, and visit a secluded beach at the base of the crater before cruising past some of Honolulu's most impressive oceanfront homes.

With a little electric boost, you'll glide up to the Diamond Head Lighthouse lookout to watch surfers on the water below and spot Doris Duke's Shangri La estate in Black Point. The ride continues to the Millennium Peace Garden near the film studios, then through the tunnel into Diamond Head Crater. From there, you'll hike to the summit past historic bunkers and lookouts, with sweeping views of Waikiki and Oahu's south and east shores.

After summit photos, it's an easy descent to a healthy local lunch — all wrapped up before midday!

FAQs

Do I need a Diamond Head entry reservation for this tour?

Yes, if you are not a Hawaii resident. Diamond Head State Monument requires advance timed entry reservations for non-residents, so please book your entry for your tour date through the Hawaii State Parks reservation system (gostateparks.hawaii.gov/diamondhead) and have your QR code ready — we stop at the entry booth on our way into the crater. Hawaii residents enter free with a valid Hawaii ID. Register for 9:00 am to 10:00 am to visit the park. QR code is emailed to you.

I've never ridden an e-bike. Can I still join the Diamond Head Electric Bike to Hike?

Yes! Your guide fits you to your bike and gives a short e-bike lesson before we leave Waikiki. The pedal-assist does most of the work on the hills, so you can focus on the views.

How difficult is the hike, and are there any physical requirements?

The e-bike makes the ride much easier, but the summit hike is about 1 mile (1.6 km) with roughly 400 ft (122 m) of elevation gain on a trail with switchbacks and stairs. Conditions can be warm to hot, especially in summer, so bring sun protection and plan to hydrate.

Why does the tour start at 7:00 am?

We start early to avoid the crowds and the midday heat on the crater trail. You'll be finished before noon.

What is special about hiking Diamond Head?

Diamond Head (Le'ahi) is Hawaii's most photographed landmark — a volcanic tuff cone with a summit trail built as part of Oahu's early 1900s coastal defense system. The hike passes historic bunkers and lookouts, and the summit views stretch across Waikiki, Honolulu, and Oahu's south and east shores.

What's for lunch?

After the hike, we descend to a healthy local lunch. Please share any food allergies or dietary needs when you book.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking as early as you can. We're a small, personalized tour company, so dates and start times can fill up quickly.

What kind of bikes do you use?

Our pedal tours use lightweight, comfortable 7-speed city bikes.

Our electric bike tours use pedal-assist Ride1Up e-bikes (Class 1–3), which give you a boost on the climbs while you pedal. Every rider gets a bike fitting before we roll out.

Are helmets provided?

Yes. A safety helmet is provided for every rider, and we'll help you choose the right fit during your bike fitting.

Is instruction included?

Yes. Every tour begins with a bike fitting and safety briefing.

On our electric bike tours, your guide also gives a short e-bike lesson so you're comfortable with the pedal-assist before we leave Waikiki.

What certifications do your guides have?

Your guide holds advanced first aid and AED/CPR certifications for your safety, and shares local history and culture through informative narration throughout the ride.

Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Yes. Please let us know about any food sensitivities or allergies when you book so we can plan safe and satisfying stops for you. Vegetarian and vegan options are available on our food-focused tours.

What is your approach to sustainability and the community?

We strive to be environmentally responsible, socially conscious, and culturally respectful, and we aim to leave a positive impact on the places we visit and the people we meet. Exploring by bike is a low-impact way to see the island, and we encourage all riders to pack a reusable water bottle and follow Leave No Trace principles on the trails.
