FAQs
How does delivery work?
At checkout, enter your hotel name or accommodation address and your preferred delivery date. The shop will confirm your delivery window. Your bike(s) will arrive with a helmet, lock, basket, and a local route map. A staff member will walk you through the bike's controls at delivery. For multi-day rentals, confirm the return logistics at delivery — the shop can collect bikes from your accommodation on your final day.
Can you deliver to any location on the island?
Yes — the shop delivers to every town on Martha's Vineyard, including Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, Tisbury, West Tisbury, Chilmark, Aquinnah, Chilmark, and Menemsha. No corner of the island is too far.
Can you deliver to the ferry terminal?
Yes — bikes can be delivered to ferry terminals for guests who want to start riding immediately on arrival. Coordinate timing with the shop when booking so they know your ferry arrival time.
How do I return the bike?
Return logistics depend on your duration and location. For daily rentals, bikes are typically returned to the shop or collected from your accommodation. Confirm the return plan with the shop at the time of delivery.
What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?
Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle for effortless cruising at any time. On Martha's Vineyard, where persistent Vineyard Sound headwinds and rolling up-island roads would otherwise slow you down, the pedal-assist makes those challenges disappear — so you can cover the entire island in a day without working up a sweat.
How far can I go on a single charge?
Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60+ miles per charge. Martha's Vineyard's key routes — the 6-mile (10 km) Beach Road path from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown, the 10-mile (16 km) State Forest loop, and the 3-mile (5 km) Edgartown to South Beach run — are all well within single-charge range. A full island day of riding is typically 20–40 miles (32–64 km) and comfortably within battery capacity.
Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?
You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. The shop's staff will walk you through the controls and pedal-assist system at pickup or delivery. Martha's Vineyard's down-island bike paths are flat and ideal for first-time e-bike riders.
Are helmets required?
Massachusetts state law requires helmets for all riders aged 16 and under on public roads and bike paths. Helmets are included with every rental and are strongly recommended for all riders.
Do I need to be physically fit?
The down-island bike paths connecting Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven are predominantly flat and accessible to all fitness levels. The up-island routes to Aquinnah and Chilmark are more rolling and hilly — the e-bike's pedal-assist makes these very manageable and opens them up to riders who might otherwise skip them on a regular bike.
What types of bikes are available?
The fleet includes electric bikes and pedal bikes for adults, plus a full range of kids' bikes and family add-ons. Select your preferred type at checkout:

- Advanced Electric Bike — available 1–7 days
- Premium Electric Bike — available 1–7 days

Enter your height at checkout to be sized for the right bike.
Which bike should I choose?
or electric bikes:
Advanced Electric Bike — A solid, capable e-bike suited to the island's paved paths and main routes. A great choice for most riders who want the e-bike experience at an accessible price point.
Premium Electric Bike — A higher-spec electric bike with enhanced components and comfort for riders who want the best available. Ideal for longer or more ambitious rides, or anyone who wants the most polished ride quality in the fleet.
Fat Tire Electric Bike — Wide fat tires provide maximum stability and a smooth, confident feel on all of the island's surfaces — paved paths, packed beach roads, and the State Forest trails. Best for riders who want the most comfortable, planted feel or plan to venture off the main paved routes.
For pedal bikes:
Standard Bike / Step-Thru Standard — Traditional pedal bikes for riders who want the classic cycling experience. The step-thru frame is easier to mount. Good for shorter rides and casual town exploring.
Beach Cruiser / Step-Thru Beach Cruiser — The quintessential Martha's Vineyard experience. Upright, comfortable, and built for leisurely coastal cruising. Perfect for the flat paths around Oak Bluffs and along the waterfront.
Not sure? Enter your height at checkout and the system will match you to the right size. For personalized guidance, contact the shop directly.
What family options do you offer? Three options for bringing children along:
Burley Child's Trailer — A pull-behind trailer that attaches to any adult bike, carrying up to 2 children (up to 100 lbs / 45 kg total). Best for younger children who aren't ready to ride independently.
Child Seat — A rear-mounted seat for one child, attached directly to the adult bike frame. A simple and popular option for a single young passenger.
Alley Cat Tag Along — A trail-a-bike that attaches to the adult bike's rear axle, letting a child pedal their own bike while connected to yours. Best for children aged approximately 4–9 who want to be part of the pedaling but aren't ready to ride alone.
Add any of these at checkout alongside your adult bike rental.
What is the weather policy?
Martha's Vineyard riding is wonderful in almost any conditions — but the island's weather is famously variable. Vineyard Sound headwinds are common, especially in the afternoon; morning rides are typically calmer. Summer fog burns off by mid-morning. Rentals go forward in all but severe weather. Contact the shop directly if conditions look concerning on your rental day.
Is parking available near the shop?
Street parking is available in Oak Bluffs near the ferry dock and along Oak Bluffs Ave. For many visitors, the better option is delivery directly to your accommodation — no parking required.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes — booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially during peak season (June through September) and holiday weekends. Martha's Vineyard is one of New England's most visited summer destinations and rental bikes fill up quickly. Book as early as possible.
What time does the shop open and close?
Daily, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM.
Where can I ride from the shop in Oak Bluffs?
The shop is steps from the Oak Bluffs ferry dock and directly connected to the island's paved bike path network:
South to Edgartown via Beach Road (6 miles / 10 km one way): The most popular and celebrated route on the island — Beach Road runs between Sengekontacket Pond on the left and Vineyard Sound on the right, with open water views the entire way. Along the route you'll cross the Jaws Bridge (yes, that Jaws Bridge), pass Joseph Sylvia State Beach, and arrive in Edgartown's historic harbor town. A perfect half-day ride with time to explore Edgartown before returning.
Edgartown to South Beach / Katama (3 miles / 5 km from Edgartown): Continue south from Edgartown on the flat, paved Katama Road path to South Beach — one of the island's finest Atlantic-facing beaches. A natural extension of the Edgartown day.
West to State Forest Loop (5 miles / 8 km from Oak Bluffs to the forest, 10-mile / 16 km loop inside): Head west on the bike path to the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest — 5,300 acres of oak and pine with a flat, car-free 10-mile (16 km) loop. Ideal for families or anyone who wants distance without road traffic.
East toward Vineyard Haven (via East Chop): The East Chop Drive detour adds about a mile but passes the East Chop Lighthouse and offers panoramic Vineyard Sound views. The full Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven loop is approximately 16 miles (26 km).
Up-island to Aquinnah / Gay Head Cliffs (22+ miles / 35+ km one way): The up-island roads to Chilmark and Aquinnah are rolling, scenic, and beautiful — winding through open farmland, stone walls, and sea views. This route is hilly and best suited to the e-bike models.
Is a car needed on Martha's Vineyard if I have a bike rental?
For most visitors, no. The island's paved path network connects all the main down-island towns — Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven — without touching a major road. The VTA (Vineyard Transit Authority) bus also accepts bikes and can carry you and your bike if you need to cover larger distances.
Can I bring my rental bike on the VTA bus?
Yes — the VTA bus accepts bikes on most routes. This is useful if you want to ride one direction and bus back, or if conditions change mid-ride.
What if I arrive by ferry to Vineyard Haven instead of Oak Bluffs?
Contact the shop directly before your trip — the shop has assisted guests arriving at Vineyard Haven, and delivery to the Vineyard Haven ferry dock is an option. Alternatively, consider the Delivery listing which brings the bike directly to your accommodation.
