Description

Culebra Snorkeling Tour – Explore Puerto Rico’s Colorful Reefs!

Join us for an unforgettable snorkeling adventure in Culebra, home to some of the most pristine coral reefs and marine life in Puerto Rico. We start the day with a scenic ride from Fajardo before arriving at one of Culebra’s stunning reef sites—Luis Peña, Carlos Rosario, Melones, or Punta Soldado—depending on weather and sea conditions. Here, you’ll spend over an hour exploring large coral formations, schools of colorful fish, and graceful sea turtles gliding through the crystal-clear waters. Our expert guides provide high-quality snorkeling gear, safety instructions, and flotation devices to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all skill levels.
After an exhilarating snorkel session, we’ll refuel with a fresh deli buffet lunch served on board. If you’re of age, turning in your snorkel gear earns you access to our signature rum bar—a perfect way to unwind before our next stop. We then head to Flamenco Beach, rated among the world’s top 10 beaches, or an alternate spot like Playa Tortuga on Culebrita if conditions require. Spend a couple of hours swimming, sunbathing, or strolling along the soft white sand, taking in the untouched beauty of Culebra’s shores.
This tour isn’t just about snorkeling—it’s a chance to fully immerse yourself in Culebra’s natural wonders, away from the crowds. With a smaller group setting, a comfortable USCG-certified powerboat, and a crew dedicated to making your experience seamless, this trip offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation.

FAQs

What should I bring for the trip?

We recommend bringing reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, swimwear, but more importantly a smile cash for onboard purchases, sunglasses, a camera, and snacks. For added convenience, many of these items are available for purchase at The Shop at SG before departure.

Is the trip suitable for children?

This trip is not suitable for children under six years old due to safety considerations. Older children are welcome and can enjoy snorkeling and beach activities.

Can pregnant women join this excursion?

Unfortunately, this trip is not recommended for pregnant women due to high-speed travel and motion in open waters.

What happens if the weather or sea conditions are unfavorable?

The captain may adjust the destination to safer, protected locations, such as Playa Tortuga, Icacos, or Palomino. These alternative sites offer stunning snorkeling and beach experiences. If we cancel due to weather or sea conditions, you will not be charged and will have the option to reschedule.

Is food or drink included?

Yes, a deli buffet lunch is included. Beers and craft cocktails are available as optional add-ons. Guests can also enjoy non-alcoholic beverages onboard.

What time should I arrive for check-in?

Check-in opens 45 minutes before departure and closes 15 minutes prior. We recommend arriving early to ensure a smooth boarding process.

Is snorkeling gear provided?

Yes, snorkeling gear and flotation devices are included. After snorkeling, return your gear to access adult beverages at the rum bar.

Are gratuities included in the price?

Gratuities are not included but are highly appreciated by our crew for their exceptional service.

What’s the minimum number of passengers required for the trip?

A minimum number of passengers is required to operate the trip. If this requirement is not met, we will notify you of alternative options or reschedule.

Where is Villa Marina Yacht Harbor located?

Villa Marina Yacht Harbor is located near Sardinera Beach in Fajardo, on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast. Our vessels, including “Getaway Too,” “Runaway,” “On The Way,” and “By The Way,” depart from Dock M-21. The drive from metro San Juan takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. Click here for directions.

What if it rains?

Rain showers are common in the tropics, but they often pass quickly. Weather on the east coast of Puerto Rico, where Fajardo is located, can differ from other areas like San Juan. If we cancel the trip due to unsafe weather, you will not be charged, and you may reschedule. However, if the trip is still operating, charges will apply even if it is raining in your location. For updates, call us before deciding not to attend.

What sunscreen can I use and why does it matter?

Common sunscreens contain chemicals that can harm coral reefs, as the particles are small enough to be absorbed by corals, causing toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens are formulated without these harmful chemicals. Reef-SAFE sunscreens go a step further by using non-nano particles, which are too large for corals to ingest, helping to preserve marine ecosystems.

Please avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Consider wearing sun-protective clothing, like long-sleeve rash guards, as an alternative to sunscreen. If you choose a mineral-based sunscreen, ensure it is labeled ‘non-nano.’

Are there sharks?

Shark incidents in Puerto Rico’s waters are extremely rare, and serious injuries are even rarer. When you enter the ocean, it’s important to remember that it’s a natural, wild environment with many types of marine life, including sharks. Although the chances of a shark-related injury are very low, they are still part of the ocean’s ecosystem, and the ocean should be approached with respect. By learning about sharks and following safety guidelines, you can minimize even this small risk.

Can you go underwater with a snorkel?

Yes, snorkels allow you to breathe with your face in the water at the surface. If you’d like to dive down, though, water will enter the snorkel, so you’ll need to hold your breath until you resurface. Once back at the surface, you can clear the snorkel by blowing out the air in your mouth hard. That should clear the snorkel, but if it doesn’t, tread the water, remove the snorkel from your mouth and dump the mouthpiece out.

Can I snorkel if I wear glasses?

Standard eyeglasses can’t be worn with a snorkel mask, but prescription masks are available for those who need vision correction while snorkeling. If you’re interested, consider looking into a prescription mask option before your tour. Alternatively, contact lenses can be worn under a snorkel mask, though it’s best to close your eyes if water enters to prevent losing a lens.

Can I snorkel with a mustache or beard?

You can snorkel with a beard or mustache but it can prevent a tight seal between the mask and your face, which may cause water to leak in. It is often recommended to shave at least your mustache before snorkeling. If you’d prefer not to shave your mustache, please bring petroleum jelly or chapstick with you. If you coat your mustache in that chapstick or jelly, it may be able to seal and prevent water from getting in.

Cancellation Policy

For individual reservations of 1-9 passengers:

Cancellations are allowed until 8:00 AM the 24 before the scheduled trip with no penalty.

For reservations of 10 or more passengers:

Cancellations must be made at least seven (7) days in advance.

We reserve the right to cancel a public sail if a minimum number of reservations are not received.

Customers will receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

All marine activities are subject to water conditions. Please call a day prior for an update on cancellations or changes of destination due to water conditions as per the captain’s discretion. These decisions can be announced at check-in.

"NO SHOW" Policy:

If you don’t arrive on time, the ticket is NOT REFUNDABLE and NOT REUSABLE.
If we cancel a tour due to weather or sea conditions, you will not be charged. You will have the option to reschedule for the next available space. Our captains will make the final decision regarding weather conditions. Please note that a few passing rain showers are normal in the tropics, and rain is more likely in the center of the island and to the west. We constantly monitor weather reports, especially the conditions on the east coast. Fajardo’s weather can differ greatly from the weather in San Juan or wherever you are located. Please don’t make the mistake of deciding not to come if it’s raining where you are, as you will be charged if the trip goes out. If you have any questions about the weather conditions, please call us to be sure.

Passengers who are inebriated, hungover, or who are not in a condition to board the boat will be denied boarding by the captain.

Passengers that don’t meet the proper requirements will not be allowed to participate and the money will be non-refundable.

Due to the unique nature and small size of our groups, we are forced to remain firm about our cancellation policy. On the day of the excursion, we will be there, on-site, waiting and ready to serve you. Regardless of the cancellation reason, our time and fixed costs are already invested, and we may have turned down other customers by holding your space.

Thank you for your understanding.
