Burley Child Trailer Add-On — Dunedin

Bring the little ones along for the ride. The Burley child trailer attaches to any Pedego rental bike and carries up to two children safely while you cruise the Pinellas Trail — out to Honeymoon Island's beaches, along the Dunedin Causeway with its Gulf views, or north toward Tarpon Springs through Palm Harbor's shaded trail corridors. The Pinellas Trail's flat, paved surface and dedicated path make it an excellent family riding environment, and the trailer keeps young passengers comfortable and secure for the full ride.

FAQs

What are the trailer's specifications?

Standard Burley child trailers carry up to 2 children with a combined weight limit of approximately 40 lbs (18 kg), include a safety harness for each passenger, and feature a covered design to protect from sun and light rain.

Is the trailer suitable for all ages of children?

The trailer is suitable for children who can sit upright independently and hold their head up — generally from about 1 year old through approximately age 7, depending on size. Infants who cannot hold their heads up independently should not ride in a bike trailer.

Are helmets required for children in the trailer?

Florida law requires children under 16 to wear helmets when on or attached to a bicycle. Children's helmets are strongly recommended for all trailer passengers.

Is the Pinellas Trail safe for riding with a child trailer?

Yes — the Pinellas Trail is an excellent family cycling environment. It's a 15-foot-wide (4.6 m) paved, dedicated path with no motor vehicle traffic, predominantly flat, and with regular amenities along the route. The Dunedin to Honeymoon Island Causeway stretch is especially family-friendly, with wide paths and beautiful water views.

Can by dog ride in the trailer?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome to ride in our trailers.

What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?

Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle for effortless cruising whenever you like. On the flat, sun-soaked Pinellas Trail, the result is pure Florida fun — you can cruise farther than you'd ever ride on a regular bike, arrive at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs without breaking a sweat, and still have energy to explore when you get there.

How far can I go on a single charge?

Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Dunedin to Tarpon Springs round trip is approximately 24 miles (39 km) — well within range. Riders who added a side trip to Honeymoon Island on the same outing report returning with battery to spare.

Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?

You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. Staff will walk you through a thorough tutorial, have you practice in the parking lot, and ensure you feel confident before you head out — multiple reviewers specifically praise the patience and thoroughness of the pre-ride orientation.

Are helmets required?

Florida state law does not require helmets for adult e-bike riders. Helmets are included with every rental and are strongly recommended. Riders under 16 are required by Florida law to wear a helmet.

Do I need to be physically fit?

Not at all. The Pinellas Trail is predominantly flat — it follows a former railroad bed through Pinellas County with virtually no elevation change. The e-bike's pedal-assist makes the riding effortless for all fitness levels. Reviewers in their 60s and 70s consistently describe covering 20+ miles without difficulty.

What is the weather policy?

Florida's weather is generally excellent for year-round riding, but summers are hot and humid. Morning start times are strongly recommended from June through September. The Pinellas Trail has limited shade on some sections — extra water is essential in warm months. Rentals go forward in all but severe weather. Contact the shop directly if a storm is in the forecast on your rental day.

What happens if I get a flat tire or the bike has a mechanical issue?

Contact the shop directly. Lock bikes securely whenever you stop at a restaurant or attraction along the trail.

Can I bring my camera or phone?

Absolutely. The Dunedin Causeway to Honeymoon Island, the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, and the Gulf views from the trail offer excellent photography throughout. The shop is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

Is parking available at the shop?

Yes — free on-site parking at 924 Curlew Rd. The shop is right off the Pinellas Trail at Curlew Road, also the start of the spur to Honeymoon Island.

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advance is recommended, especially for multi-day rentals and peak season weekends (October through April). Walk-ins are welcomed based on availability. The shop is open daily, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

What time does the shop open and close?

Daily, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. All bikes must be returned by 5:00 PM unless on a multi-day rental.

Where can I ride from the shop?

The shop sits directly on the Pinellas Trail at Curlew Road, with three great directions to explore:

West — Honeymoon Island (4 miles / 6.4 km each way): The Dunedin Causeway spur runs west from Curlew Road along the Causeway to Honeymoon Island State Park — one of Florida's most popular state parks, with 4 miles of beaches, a nature trail, and a ferry to Caladesi Island. The ride along the Causeway offers panoramic views of St. Joseph Sound and the Gulf beyond. Allow 1.5–2 hours for a relaxed out-and-back with time at the beach.

North — Tarpon Springs and the Sponge Docks (12 miles / 19 km each way): Head north on the Pinellas Trail through Palm Harbor and Wall Springs County Park to Tarpon Springs — a historic Greek-American community famous for its working sponge diving industry. The Sponge Docks district on the Anclote River has waterfront restaurants, sponge shops, and Greek bakeries. The round trip is approximately 24 miles (39 km) — comfortable on an 8-hour rental at a relaxed pace with a lunch stop.

South — Downtown Dunedin and Clearwater (6 miles / 10 km to Clearwater): Head south through downtown Dunedin's charming Main Street, past Weaver Park and along the waterfront, continuing south toward Clearwater's downtown and the Courtney Campbell Causeway trail connection.

Is the Pinellas Trail flat?

Yes — the trail follows a former railroad bed and is essentially flat throughout. There are 10 overpasses over busy streets and a few gentle hills between Miles 37 and 40 near Tarpon Springs, but the overall character is flat, wide, and easy. The Pinellas Trail is 15 feet (4.6 m) wide and paved with asphalt throughout.

Is Honeymoon Island State Park entry included?

No — Honeymoon Island State Park charges a per-person entry fee for cyclists and pedestrians (currently $4 per person; confirm at the park entrance). The fee is not included in the rental.

Is parking free at the shop?

Yes — free on-site parking at 924 Curlew Rd.

How does a 24-hour or multi-day rental work?

The bike goes with you. A charger is included — plug in at your accommodation each evening for a full battery every morning. Return the bike by 5:00 PM on your final rental day.
