Description

Off-the-Beaten-Path Mountain Hike & Waterfall Adventure in Caguas, Puerto Rico!

Discover the real Puerto Rico on this full-day adventure through the Central Mountain Range, combining hiking, waterfalls, and local flavors. Begin your day with a stop at a family-run coffee shop, where the owners are also the farmers, and savor the taste of authentic Puerto Rican coffee. From there, you’ll journey to the Door of the Mountain Range, an off-the-beaten-path entry point to a private nature reserve, taking in panoramic views of the lush countryside along the way.
Your hike leads through a subtropical forest along well-established trails, suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. Encounter a centenary native tree, over 300 years old, and continue to unique waterfalls, including a 150-foot cascade perfect for photos and nature immersion. Midway, relax at a natural pond, surrounded by lush greenery, and enjoy freshly cut tropical fruits as you soak in the serene environment of this private reserve.
Tucked near Puerto Rico’s highest rainforest reserves—Toro Negro, Bosque Estatal Tres Pichachos, and Cerro Punta—the day concludes with a savory Puerto Rican meal overlooking the central mountains. With hiking, river trekking, waterfalls, and immersive nature, this tour offers an authentic, active, and unforgettable way to experience Puerto Rico’s mountains and culture.

FAQs

Why don’t we share the name of our location?

As a policy of this company for the respect of private land, and for the preservation of this natural area (once again, which is private land), we can’t disclose the name of the location, which is located in a private nature preserve hacienda in the middle of the Central Mountain Range of Puerto Rico. This hacienda is near Toro Negro, Tres Picachos, and Cerro Punta in Jayuya. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why the early pick up time?

In Puerto Rico, the orographic effect is very common. What happens is, the trade winds push hot, humid air up the mountains and this change in elevation cools the air, and lowers the capacity to retain humidity. Then we have condensation and what we love, but we don't like, is precipitation, which usually happens after mid-day. In simple terms, we do not want to see a flash flood in person. Safety first.

Is lunch provided?

For our Hiking Tour, we don't provide lunch, but we stop in a local restaurant where you can purchase lunch at your own expense.

What should we wear?

We suggest you wear shorts, leggings, and t-shirts, as well as quick-drying and dri-fit fabrics. Guys will be most comfortable in swimming trunks. Ladies can wear swimsuits underneath their clothes. Having proper footwear is very important for this tour. Examples of brands that make water shoes and shoes with good traction: Keen, Chaco, Five Ten, La Sportiva. If you don’t have water shoes or trekking shoes, a good pair of sneakers will suffice. Examples of brands that make sneakers or running shoes: Nike, Reebok, Asics, Adidas. Bringing a rain jacket or poncho is highly recommended, since we receive more than 100 inches of rain per year.

Is it safe to bring my electronics with me?

Water is one of the main elements of our adventures, making it risky to bring electronics along for the tour. However, our adventure guides always carry dry bags to protect your electronics from the water. We are not responsible for your electronics.

What happens if there is bad weather?

We are constantly monitoring the weather to make sure that conditions are stable. However, the weather in Puerto Rico is very unpredictable and hard to foresee.

We reserve the right to cancel any tour due to adverse weather conditions at any time. Please keep in mind that the tour takes place in a sub-tropical humid forest, which means that the tour will still operate even if it's raining between doable parameters.

Can we drive to the adventure site?

No. We park our van in a quiet countryside area and we try to avoid any unnecessary disturbance to the local community. Furthermore, we take advantage of our time in the van with participants to provide important information regarding the tour.

We require good health and physical condition(PLEASE read carefully our physical requirements).
